REVIEW: Wonder Woman Day Special Edition #1
First of all, Happy Wonder Woman Day everyone, if you haven“t seen the movie yet then you are missing out (Check out my review HERE)! Secondly, I would like to thank DC for providing us with such a great representation of our hero in this new rebirth series. And finally this issue belongs in a gallery with some of the most beautiful illustrations I have seen in a long time.
We begin with Wonder Woman in the Banakane Rainforest searching for someone, not to fight but to talk to. But the rain forest and it guardians have other ideas and will not make this easy on our hero. Wonder Woman will only give the rain forest 3 warnings before she will fight but she truly only wants to talk.
Jump forward to Langley Virginia, where commander Etta Candy (I know I got excited too) makes her way to a secured facility and tries contact the team on the ground (I bet you can never guess who that might be ?). She finally makes contact but our team is under fire, but Steve is ok. Steve and his team are there to stop the evil Cadulo, but guess what intelligence have seen Wonder Woman entre the area too and they want to know if Steve leaked this intel to her. He is not impressed, he hasn“t spoken to Diana in a very long time.
Back to Wonder Woman and the rainforest, gives her second warning, she wants to ask the Goddess for aid but will they allow her to? She will fight but only because she has no other option.
We now find Steve and his team out of firing range and arriving at a village only to find wounded villagers and the horror story that the warlords men have taken all their daughters. This is not a good sign.
Wonder Woman is not in the grips of battle, a battle she can“t win, a battle she doesn“t want to be part of, and as she is fighting she come face to face with Themyscira, and this is when she asks for help. Because She is lost and only her friend can help her.
I enjoyed this special edition, as I have already said the art work is spectacular. I look forward to finding out what will happen to our Hero and will she and Steve meet? 5 out of 5
