The finale of RENAISSANCE

The Surgeon, a broken man corrupted by the wickedness of Wonderland, makes his final stand against Earth. Tasked with bringing him down, Calie once again will straddle the line between Wonderland and Earth”¦ madness and sanity. When all is said and done, will the White Queen fall to an insanity that could never be quelled?

I have to admit that until very recently, I had never read a Zenescope book but I am certainly glad I did. The Grimm Fairy Tales series is one of the most underrated books on store shelves today, and the book that introduced me to the publisher, and the same could be said about the Wonderland series. Loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, Wonderful offers a slightly darker and more fantastical look at the magical world of Wonderland, and the characters that inhabit it.

Wonderland #30 finishes off the current arc as the White Queen finally comes face to face with the Surgeon in an all out battle and rescues a group of kidnapped children. The story isn“t anything new and different but it is so much fun to read.

Erica Heflin continues her delightful run on this series and shows us just how comfortable she is telling this kind of story and dealing with these characters. The dialogue is simple and straightforward enough that this would be a great read for comic fans of all ages – aside from the one or two profanities slightly unnecessarily thrown in. The ending of the book is solid and definitely leaves a lot to look forward to in the next arc.

Vincenzo Riccardi“s art does a nice job with the pencils and bringing the wonderful world of Wonderland to life. I would have prefered a slightly darker tone to the art but Riccardi“s pencils are generally solid throughout, offering a good sense of perspective and detailed action sequences.

This type of story may not be for everyone but if you love fantasy, you will definitely find a lot to like here. There maybe be a couple issues with the pacing and art, but overall Wonderland #30 is another great chapter in the series.
