REVIEW: WWE : Power of Positivity No.2

The Power of Positivity Part II is another welcome peek behind the curtains for wrestling heads around the WWE Universe.

Since it’s The New Day of course the colors are bound to pop, so the cartoony nature of Bayliss’ art fits like a glove while Narcisse & Walker’s words sound as if they were direct quotes from the world famous wrestling stable.The New Day wasn’t always that over though. And this story delves into their origins, starting with a boardroom meeting with Triple H gone wrong.

As the pages turn, gimmick after gimmick fails and has the stable questioning themselves until eventually they decide to flip one of creative’s schticks , until it sticks! Again the art is bright and goofy, but the dialogue is serious as ever as The New Day does what they can to adhere to the policies of the company they work for all while attempting to get over with the crowd and maintain their identity. After reading this, I can now further understand why so many cuts have recently been occuring in the WWE roster and while they will continue to occur. This billion dollar business doesn’t take chances, but fresh faces come with changes & The New Day was able to find a way to shift the game.

The panels are full of emotion – sad fans holding their heads, The New Day collectively and individually looking lost and frustrated – all of this just to turn around towards the final quarter of the book where a fan is elated to get an autograph from the stable. The training scenes were like a thing out of “Rocky” – except with flapjacks & chicken eggs – no chicken. Though a rubber chicken does get pulled by a crowd member early in the book as The New Day gets heckled …
The Power of Positivity is a tale about the most positive stable in WWE today – and showing that every feel good story has shadows behind it to bring out the bright colors so well.

I’ve never been big on this stable (I’ve always seen them as corny, and prefer their respective singles runs), but now to see that not all of their gimmicks were their own idea, I respect their journey. Even more, I respect their power.
