Spoiler Free Review: Boom Studios WWE No. 25

Today I get to talk about WWE and comics, and being totally honest, this is pretty awesome. Boom Studios was kind enough to send over a review sample of WWE No. 25, and I am going give you some spoiler free reviewing of this comic! Now before we slam into issue 25, I want to point out a couple of things. At best I am a casual viewer of WWE in it’s current form today. The second being, the story outlined in this issue did take place on television, but I only know about it in bits and pieces.  So without further ado, lets lay the smackdown on this WWE comic review!

Story:  So without going too deep into detail, this book covers a feud that WWE Champion AJ Styles is having with Samoa Joe over the summer months. And as Dennis Hopeless has the backdrop set for him, he really crafts a very engaging story! The twists and turns that the story has really creates WWE in comic book form. At times I felt like I was watching a WWE program instead of reading a comic. All the characters are flushed out in great form, and everything just feels like it belongs. I myself am quite envious of Mr. Hopeless and his writing power! All in all, its a great story for any wrestling fan both young and old.

Artwork: I first want to talk about the cover I received.  Marco D’ Alfonso has some beautifully designed covers. The artwork of AJ and Samoa Joe looks great and immediately grabs your attention. Now onto the other three artist who brought this story to life. Serg Acuna has a great drawing power that really creates magic for these characters. The stable of writers and illustrators that make up this issue are a powerful combo. Serg’s artwork draws the perfect picture to Hopeless’s words, and that’s an awesome one two punch. Add to that, the wonderful colors of Doug Garbark, paint a picture of the squared circle(both inside and out) in spectacular fashion. Rounding out the team, Jim Campbell’s lettering really highlight Dennis Hopeless words in great stride!

Overall, I am happy that I was able to read this and talk about it. It’s a fun story that is well put together, and never drops a beat. It’s a comic that is fun to read for a none wrestling fan, as much as it is for the diehard wrestling fan. I really may sound like I am pushing this book too much, but I really found it a real delight, and hopefully you will to. 5/5!
