Review: Fearscape #2

As is usually the case with me, it’s time yet again for another spoiler free review. On this edition I take a look at FearScape No.2 from Vault Comics. This story is written by Ryan O’ Sullivan, and illustrated by Andrea Mutti. With Colorist Vladimir Popov and lettering by Andworld Design. This book is quite interesting, and I say that because I did not come into it reading issue 1, but issue two does a great job of not making you feel lost or out-of-place. Overall I find the book quite good, and you should take the time to read it.

So as far as story goes, Ryan O’ Sullivan writes a fine good story. The pacing feels natural, and you really become invested on reading each page to discover the journey of the characters in the book. I had no problems seeing the characters interact in what I would call a fantasy world that feels alive. Every character you come across feels important and a part of the story as opposed to just being there. I think, for me at least, this is an important aspect in reading a graphic novel that many times gets lost in the genre.

As far as illustrations and artwork go, not only do the pages look beautiful, but they paint the story in a fantastic light.Â Each panel brings the words to your eyes in a great way! The art in the this book works in big ways, and has its own flavor and look that may seem familiar, but yet feels different. Andrea Mutti and Vladimir work wonderfully and are combo that I hope don’t ever stray far away from each other.

Overall, this book is a fun read. I am curious enough now to go back to issue one and get the full flavor of this very talented team. Normally stories like this tend not to be my cup of tea, but honestly, the team behind this book do an amazing job of creating a world they want to share work, that only a fool would pass it by. So do yourself a favor and pick this up when it drops on the market to be purchased. 5/5
