Review: Thor The Worthy One Shot

Thor and the world of Asgard have been busy; still dealing with some of the fallout from the War of the Realms; Â dealing with demons from hell in the Avengers, not to mention that the character has had to overcome the debacle of Thor #1 (debuting January 1) surrounding its spillage, due to people up to no good (see my video with Al Mega regarding this topic!). I feel like Marvel has some ground to cover regarding what the relatively new-all father has been up to. The last we saw Thor Odinson (or at least his head), was in Captain Marvel #12, as Carol Danvers was kicking his ass from NYC to Timbuktu.

In this one-shot it is a compilation of different stories and in “BEYOND THE FIELD WE KNOW”“, Beta Ray Bill and Lady Asif, face off against a previously unknown threat in the fields of Asgard. The art by Mike Hawthorne has a Kirbyish style to using the concepts of smoke and mirrors, and trap doors to reel you in, as he entertains the reader, making you see only what he wants you to see.

In Hearts of Stone, Feet of Clay, the first actual story with Thor in it; Eric Masterson aka ThunderStrike (Thor #391) suits up against the Grey Gargoyle (Journey into Mystery #107). It was old school fun and the art by Keith Williams, evoked some 80s nostalgia for me, but the story is missing the realistic narrative tone to match it gritty imagery style. Though the photorealistic depictions of the urban landscape were nothing to sneeze at.Â Also, its evocation of Spider-ManÂ #33: If this be my Destiny means I must give it a thumbs up.

In RULES FOR REFLECTION, written by Kate Immonen, Lady Asif, and Lady Thor team up to confront trolls who have been lurking in shadows of the Halls of the Royal Palace with a new enchanted weapon.

FINAL VERDICT:Â So, this Thor the Worthy One Shot, wasn“t exactly what I was hoping far but it still had some good elements regardless; and eerily felt like there were some characters it was trying to remind us of certain characters.
