Battle lines are drawn and Megatron“s final push on Iacon is in full swing, time has run out for the Autobots all seems lost, how will they defeat the Decepticons and save Cybertron this time?
The one word I would use to describe this issue is epic; Metzen and Ollie get the Transformers in every sense of the word. Optimus is the heroic leader, Grimlock the consummate badass and Megatron manically evil, this book is everything a Transformers fan could want and more. This issue concerns a massive battle coming to its conclusion in Iacon and everything is there, the most standout moment is the confrontation between Optimus and Megatron. It is so charged with emotion and comes to a great conclusion that leaves you feeling satisfied and eagerly awaiting the next story arc. Whilst the whole issue is taken up with the battle plenty of character moments are provided within that make this more than just robot on robot action providing the depth of character that the Transformers are known for and Metzen and Ollie really show their knowledge of Transformers lore in every page.
Ramonelli“s art fits this book perfectly; each and every bot in this book is recreated to look pretty much exactly like they would in generation 1. Everything in this issue is quite dark and grim but, it makes sense as this is the final battle for the fate of Iacon displaying the effect of war on Cybertron and in some cases revelling in its destruction. However, for a fan of the franchise it just looks and feels like the Transformers should, Ramonelli has really done his research and the care and attention really shows making this one of the best looking sci-fi books on the stands.
Overall Primacy Issue 4 delivers on every level, providing a satisfying conclusion to this series by delivering epic battles, explosive action and character moments that really makes any fan feel right at home on this version of Cybertron. I would urge any fan or anyone interested in the franchise to check the work that IDW and this creative team are doing with the Transformers out. They are taking it to new levels delivering a living breathing universe with some of your favourite characters exactly how you remember them.
