Robert Kirkman & Team Announce New Superhero Series Terminal

Straight out of Robert Kirkman’s keynote at ComicsPro, Skybound and Image Comics just dropped a bombshell: this summer, they’re unleashing TERMINAL, a brand-new superhero series that already feels like an instant classic in the making. And when we say stacked creative team, we mean STACKED.

Leading the charge are Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and Joe Casey (Uncanny X-Men, Wildcats) on writing duties, joined by an all-timer lineup of artistic heavy hitters: Andy Kubert (X-Men, Batman), David Finch (Ultimate X-Men, Batman), and Arthur Adams (X-Men). Add in legendary colorist Dave McCaig (The Walking Dead Deluxe) and elite letterer Rus Wooton (TRANSFORMERS), and you’re looking at a murderers’ row of talent that reads like a superhero hall-of-fame roster.

Let’s make this clear: Terminal marks Robert Kirkman’s long-awaited return to superheroes for the first time since Invincible. Yeah. That alone should have your pre-order finger twitching. Terminal #1—the kickoff to what’s already being called one of the year’s must-read superhero events—hits comic shops on July 22, 2026.

Kirkman himself didn’t even try to play it cool. He straight-up admitted he’s done plenty of press quotes in his career, but never for something this exciting. In his words? This is the coolest comic on the market, built by the best creative team ever assembled—and he dares anyone to name a book with more artistic firepower. Spoiler alert: you can’t. He’s co-creating a brand-new superhero universe alongside Joe Casey, Andy Kubert, David Finch, and Arthur Adams, and the excitement is clearly off the charts. Joe Casey echoed that energy, saying that while he’s been part of big launches before, this is the biggest. Years in the making, massive in scope, and loaded with ambition, Terminal is superhero comics firing on all cylinders—big ideas, bold execution, and zero safety nets.

So what’s it about?

Behind the scenes, a secret war is raging across the globe. Two violent factions with superhuman abilities are battling in the shadows, blurring the line between hero and monster. When Marilyn Howe begins searching for her missing sister, Alessandra, she’s pulled straight into the heart of this conflict. What she discovers will change everything—because saving the world may require unlocking your genetic code and sacrificing everything you thought defined you… assuming you survive the process.

And the creators? They’re having the time of their lives.

Andy Kubert calls Terminal his most exciting project outside the “big two” since the late ’80s, praising the joy of building characters and worlds alongside Kirkman and Casey. David Finch describes the book as a full-on adrenaline shot—classic, high-octane superhero storytelling with jaw-dropping visuals—and admits that working on the same book as Andy Kubert and Arthur Adams feels surreal, even as a fan. Arthur Adams, meanwhile, is thrilled to be back doing interior work, helping launch an entirely new universe packed with heroes, monsters, and wild surprises no one will see coming.

And because Skybound doesn’t do things halfway, Terminal #1 is also rolling out with a special blind bag program. Fans will have a chance to score nearly all orderable covers at varying rarity levels, plus three exclusive surprise items hidden inside select blind bags. No spoilers. No previews. Just pure mystery, Kirkman-style.

Bottom line?
If you love Invincible.
If you miss the wild, electric energy of classic X-Men.
If you want superheroes that are violent, unpredictable, and unapologetically bold…

Terminal is coming for you.

With a creative lineup that has each redefined superhero comics in their own way, and a story that promises to break rules and expectations, Terminal is shaping up to be one of the biggest comic launches of 2026.

Terminal #1 (SRP $4.99 | Lunar codes coming soon) lands Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at comic shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

This isn’t just a new series.
It’s a statement.
