Alright, this one hits big brain, big heart, big sci-fi energy so let’s turn the volume ALL the way up. 🚀🤖
Bestselling powerhouse duo Mark Elijah Rosenberg (Approaching the Unknown, Year Million) and Matthew Rosenberg (We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us, 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank) are joining forces and coming in HOT with If Destruction Be Our Lot, an action-packed, thought-provoking sci-fi series launching this May from Image Comics. First revealed exclusively via IGN, this ongoing series is ready to mess with your head in the best way possible.
Backing them up is a stacked creative squad: art wizard Andy Macdonald (Doctor Strange, Wonder Woman), color maestro Francesco Segala, and lettering assassin Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. And for the collectors? Oh, they didn’t forget you jaw-dropping variant covers are coming courtesy of absolute titans Jerome Opeña, James Harren, Tradd Moore, and more. Shelf presence? Secured.
Now let’s talk story because this premise is WILD. Humanity? Gone. The Earth? Still spinning. Who’s left? The robots we built to serve us. And honestly? They’re doing great. No humans. No chaos. Just efficiency. Well… except for Abe.
Abe is a robotic replicant of Abraham Lincoln, and he’s got a problem existential dread. While the other bots are content with the daily grind, Abe feels there’s something missing. Something more. Beyond the edge of the city. Beyond routine. After a near-death experience, Abe makes a choice: he’s leaving it all behind to wander the Earth in search of meaning… or get recycled trying. Heavy? Yeah. Hilarious? Also yes. Emotional? Absolutely.
Mark Rosenberg summed it up perfectly in IGN’s exclusive coverage, saying that coming into comics from film opened his eyes to the medium’s limitless creative potential. This story, he explains, tackles real issues through a bizarre but powerful metaphor, boiling everything down to one universal truth: the search for friendship even if that friendship happens to be with a talking toaster.
Matthew Rosenberg added that this is a story he’s been carrying for years, and that it’s grown into something bigger, funnier, sadder, stranger, and more hopeful than he ever imagined. Creating it alongside longtime collaborators, new creative partners, and his own brother? That’s the kind of full-circle magic creators live for.
And Andy Macdonald? He keeps it real: his hatred of A.I. is rivaled only by his love for weird little robots. For him, crafting a story about a strange soul searching for meaning in a world that’s moved on is not only timely it’s an absolute blast. And he can’t wait for readers to step into this lonely, off-kilter, deeply human world… even if it’s run entirely by robots.
If Destruction Be Our Lot isn’t just sci-fi. It’s funny. It’s sad. It’s weird. It’s hopeful. And it’s coming to remind us that even at the end of everything, connection still matters.
Yeah… this one’s special. WEPA. 🤖🔥
