The Green Hornet & Miss Fury Cross Paths With Alex Segura!
Alex Segura Pens Ultimate Pulp Superhero Crossover |
Dynamite Entertainment is thrilled to announce a thrilling new series bringing two of the most historic pulp superhero figures together for the first time ever. The Green Hornet / Miss Fury starts its tales this November, through the stylings of writers Alex Segura (Star Wars, Secret Identity) and Henry Barajas (Helm Greycastle, Batman: Urban Legends), alongside rising star artist Federico Sorressa.
When Marla Drake and Britt Reid meet, sparks fly — and it’s not just because of the bullets ricocheting around them! Their alter egos of Miss Fury and The Green Hornet are two vigilantes with very different styles of crimefighting set on a collision course. When the two vigilantes discover they not only shared a mentor – the mysterious crime-fighter known as the Silver Shrike – and that the man that helped shape them into the heroes they are today is dead, the Hornet and Fury must put aside their differences to solve the mystery. But as the unlikely partners dig deeper into their beloved mentor’s death, they uncover a deeper conspiracy that looms as a threat over all “masks” – and one that could be gunning for them, too! The Green Hornet, by the book and willing to throw punches wherever a crime happens, bristles at Miss Fury’s more precise approach – a strategy driven by her desire to “cut off the head” of organized crime, instead of allowing it to keep festering. Can the duo – along with Green Hornet’s ever-loyal partner, Kato, get to the truth before they’re consumed by a threat they have yet to discover? Only time will tell.
Dynamite, Segura, Barajas, Sorressa, and the whole team invite readers to solve the mystery of who killed the Silver Shrike!
“I have a soft spot for two things – writing pulp heroes I grew up reading as a kid, and working with my friends,” Segura said. “So when Dynamite approached me to take this series on, I instantly knew who I wanted to pair with. Henry and I have been brainstorming Green Hornet ideas for a while now, and this felt like the perfect springboard to not only spotlight the iconic hero, but put him up against one of the true classic heroines of comics, Miss Fury. Fleshing out her backstory and watching these two icons play off each other has been a treat – these characters almost write themselves. Add in the detailed, cinematic art Federico brings to every page and the end result is sure to be a fun ride for longtime fans of Green Hornet and Miss Fury – or folks looking for a fun, Bronze Age-style romp.”
Not an origin story or reimagining, The Green Hornet / Miss Fury is set in the middle of the swinging sixties, blending the charm of the Hornet’s TV era with an added coat of neo-noir wonder. Both characters date back to the 1930s and 40s, with multiple subsequent eras of their adventures. The Green Hornet has featured across radio, films, television, and countless comics, including an acclaimed legacy through Dynamite for nearly 15 years. Miss Fury made her mark as the first female superhero created by a woman, the trailblazing June Tarpé Mills.
“Green Hornet and Miss Fury are two of the most iconic pulp capes ever. I grew up pouring through the early Harvey Comics stories, listening to the radio shows, and watching the 1966 TV show starring Bruce Lee as Kato,” Barajas said. “This is undoubtedly a love letter to the Golden Age of comics while stinging the fans leaving them asking for more.”
Writer Alex Segura is known for his talents with pulpy and noir-esque tales, aNd tied to the tropes and history of those genres as well as comic books. His fantastic novels Secret Identity and Alter Ego take inspiration from the comics industry to weave compelling mystery and thriller yarns. Segura’s work on comics like Dick Tracy, Blood Oath, and Black Ghost tap into this energy as well, perfectly setting him up for this exciting crossover. He’s joined by acclaimed co-writer Henry Barajas in developing the story, and newcomer Federico Sorressa also stands ready to sling ink depicting this deadly duo.
The series will feature a set of hard-boiled covers from the likes of Francesco Francavilla, Jae Lee, Jonathan Case, and Jacob Edgar.
THE GREEN HORNET / MISS FURY #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ September 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in November 2024. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies of the book with their local comic book retailers.
