REVIEW: The Savage Sword of Conan Issue 4

One of the biggest events in all of comics is taking place in The Savage Sword of Conan issue 4. The event is “The battle of the Black Stone”!

The Black Stone according to the current writer of Conan the Barbarian Jim Zub was one of those cryptic ingredient’s creator and writer of Conan the Barbarian Robert E. Howard used several times throughout his story telling. First published in 1931 in the Howard’s story titles The Black Stone.

The team over at Titan Comics and Heroic Signature felt the Black Stone as the perfect centerpiece to bring some of Howard’s most popular characters together to one large event, The Battle of the Black Stone.

Popular Howard characters like Solomon Kane, Dark Agnes, El Borak, Brissa, John Kirwan & John Conrad, and of course Conan the Barbarian.

After reading issue 4 of the Savage Sword of Conan, I can tell you the story of The Battle of the Black Stone is in good hands!!

The issue starts with the first story, Conan: Birthright in Black written by Jim Zub with art from Fernando Dagnino, followed by Solomon Kane: Blood from a Stone written and drawn by Patrick Zircher, Brissa: Ever and Never Beyond written by Jim Zub with art from Dean Kotz, Conrad & Kirowan: Horror from the Tomb written by Jeffery Shanks with art from Eryk Donovan, Dark Agnes: Matrimony written by Fred Kennedy with art from Andy Belanger, and lastly El Borak: Black Oasis written by Ron Marz with art from Mike Perkins.

Wow do you get a bang for your buck on this issue!! An amazing foundation laid for Issue 1 of Conan: The Battle of Black Stone. This arc of the Battle of Black Stone will continue through December and is an event you do not want to miss!

What Jim Zub and art team of Robert De La Torre and Doug Braithwaite have done with Conan the Barbarian in 2024 already have my vote for possible title of the year.

Bringing to the forefront some of Robert E. Howards characters into one amazing story is putting the entire team at Titan Comics and Heroic Signature in a good place to be the top title on many comic fans best of the year.

I could not recommend more highly this title.
