WEPAAAA… you already know when Universal Monsters move, we pay attention.
Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics just pulled the curtain back — and nah, this ain’t no soft reveal. In partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, they dropped the cover lineup AND preview pages for Universal Monsters: Phantom of the Opera #2, and family… this joint is looking sinister in all the right ways. This twisted, beautifully haunting reimagining comes from the lethal creative combo of Tyler Boss (You’ll Do Bad Things) and Martin Simmonds (Universal Monsters: Dracula, The Department of Truth). And if you’ve been following this Universal Monsters run? You already know they don’t miss. Issue #2 hits comic shops March 25, 2026 — and the horror energy keeps climbing.
Christine, a young soprano, should be living her dream. Spotlight shining. Career rising. Paris Opera House glowing like gold. But instead? Violence starts tearing through the opera house like a scream in the dark. Her world feels brighter than ever… until the Phantom strikes again. And when he strikes? Nothing. Will. Be. The. Same. Translation? This is going to be a wall-piece kind of issue. And let’s zoom out for a second. Phantom of the Opera marks the sixth entry in the modern Universal Monsters line — a run that’s been straight heat.
We’ve already seen:
- Dracula by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds — which earned Simmonds an Eisner nomination for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art).
- Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! by Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts.
- Frankenstein by Michael Walsh.
- The Mummy by Faith Erin Hicks.
- The Invisible Man by James Tynion IV and DANI.
This line isn’t nostalgia cosplay. It’s horror prestige comics with teeth. And guess what? Phantom won’t be the last. Another Universal Monsters limited series is already lined up, pairing major comic book talent with pop culture’s most iconic creatures in what’s quickly becoming one of the best-selling modern horror lines in comics today. The monsters aren’t just back. They’ve evolved. And if this second issue hits like it looks? The Phantom isn’t haunting the Opera House…
He’s haunting the whole industry.
