Visual Effects Legends Bring Stories to the Page at San Diego Comic-Con

SDCC 2025 welcomes a powerhouse panel of visual effects veterans who have shaped some of the most iconic moments in film, television, games, and immersive attractions. Now they have turned their talents and imaginations to the world of speculative fiction.

In Worldbuilders: Visual Effects Meets Speculative Fiction, acclaimed VFX artists and supervisors Scott Kilburn (Life of Pi, Doom Patrol), Jim Hillin (Beauty and the Beast, Thor: Love and Thunder), Wilson Kincaid (The Matrix, Star Trek: Discovery), Alan Chan (World of Warcraft: The War Within, LOTR: The Two Towers), and Garrett Broussard (Alita: Battle Angel, Space Jam: A New Legacy) take the stage to explore how their backgrounds in visual storytelling have influenced their science fiction and fantasy writing.

Moderated by speculative fiction author and editor Theresa Halvorsen (Warehouse Dreams, River City Widows, Lost Aboard), this engaging conversation will offer inspiration, insight, and a peek behind the scenes of both the entertainment industry and the literary world.

This unique panel promises an insider’s look at how worldbuilding on the screen translates into worldbuilding on the page. From blockbuster VFX to gripping novels, these creators share how cinematic spectacle and narrative craft intersect in their work.
