2019 a Super Good Year!

Just like last year, I bring you a summary about the Super Heroes movies of the year, you can read the 2018 post HERE, in this freshly and new post I put in order from best to worst movies of the year and to be honest the 2019 was a little better about Super Heroes films, so let’s play!

1.- Joker: In 2018 the first place on my list was occupied by an animation: “Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse” Despite being an unquestionable very good movie that caused many fans a pleasant experience, it was something disappointing that none Live Action movie occupied this place (although Spidey’s animation of course was a very high stake ro reach) fortunately this year there were better proposals and among them the expected Joker, from the first Teaser Trailer this film generated many expectations, perhaps the Todd Phillips’ previous cinematography was not his best cover letter, which despite not being bad did not seem to meet the expectations that this film seemed to offer, fortunately Phillips managed to exceed those expectations in addition to the undisputed performance of Joaquin Phoenix who will surely be one of the most emblematic Jokers of cinema for a long time, Joker was a film that was full of questions and with much controversy given the recent violent acts in U.S.A. When a film of this nature generates so much controversy in the end it results in free publicity but it is also a double-edged sword that can harm Joker in the Oscars awards, it would be a shame to punish Phillips and Phoenix for issues that in the end are political, If the academy continues with its recent policy of being “Politically Correct” it could harm this film, which would be a shame, hopefully it will run with the same fate and receptivity as in Cannes, although for me it was a visual jewel at the level of movies like “Taxi Driver”, “Raging Bull” and “The Deer Hunter” and it is no coincidence that all these films have DeNiro in his cast.

2.- Avengers Endgame: Wow, in 2018 “Infinity War” took second place just as “Endgame” does now in my list, and casually both movies left me with the same feeling, you can read my review HERE, it was an entertaining movie, it fulfilled the mission of give a good ending to what is now known as “The Infinity Saga”, many people thought Endgame was a bad movie, personally I do not think it was bad as such, but “Infinity War” was much better, and it have the 2nd place on my list because was a movie that deserve this place, nothing more to say.

3.- Spider-Man Far From Home: 2019 was very shaky for the friendly neighborhood and for who put the webby mask on in the big screen: Tom Holland, many fans of the Raimi trilogy may argue that the best Spider-Man was Tobey Maguire, but Holland undoubtedly can fight that place with Maguire, since with Endgame and FFH he surpassed Maguire in appearances as the most beloved wall crawler of the comics, FFH also served as a springboard to a new controversy now apparently resolved between Marvel and Sony, issue which I dedicated a post that you can read HERE, the good box office of FFH only made Sony’s greed emerge in the best style of a Spider-Man villain, and Sony Pictures momentaniusly kill any chance to continue watching Spidey’s Holland in the MCU, apparently a conversation of Holland with some chairmen of both companies allowed to reach some agreements: A potential 3rd. (possibly last) Holland film in the MCU and some cameos in addition to Kevin Feige’s commitment to being in charge in each Spidey participation in the MCU (and maybe the Sony’s Spider-Verse) brings the calm again to the Multiverse, but hey, nothing is written and who could benefit indirectly would be in any case Venom and Tom Hardy since they hypothetically could have open doors to the MCU.

4.- Shazam!: In my opinion the film that ends the stage of the DCEU, a film for purely childish public that left a lot in debt, but removes that dark look that characterized the films of DC/Warner during Snyder era, maybe that shadowy style worked for some movies but for others simply not (not everything can be dark and sinister like Batman) the film leaves the door open to an imminent second part which I hope will improve aspects that do not work on, also the arrival of Black Adam at the franchise played by “The Rock” is an additional ingredient that gives much interest in the upcoming sequels of the Big Red Cheese.

5.- Brightburn: This secret and personal project of James Gunn happened almost inadvertently with relative success, at least it had a good receptivity that exceeded the expectations and successfully fulfilled it’s goeal which I think gets almost for sure it’s eventual second part.

6.- Captain Marvel: This film served as an introduction to Endgame and as a warm welcome to Captain Marvel at the MCU, set in the 90’s her strong point was nostalgia and the introduction in the MCU of some Marvel’s great characters: The Skrulls (which opens many other possibilities) and Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel/Photon, but the movie felt really really hurried also the almost little tiny participation of Carol Danvers in Endgame, anyway, this movie works well to be the first solo film of a Super-heroine in the MCU but left a lot in debt with the character, of course she deserved more.

Special mention:

Watchmen: This post is dedicated exclusively to the Super-Heroes movies, however I think that Watchmen deserves a special mention because it was a real success, I had many doubts consider the previous adaptation of Snyder, particularly because I don’t know if it would be a prequel or sequel, a sequel of what? Snyder’s movie? Moore/Gibbons comic? Both? fortunately these doubts were clarified and in the best way, Damon Lindelof with the advice of Dave Gibbons gave us a spectacular sequel to Alan Moore’s masterpiece, Lindelof did his homework well and brings an excellent sequel to the Moore/Gibbons masterpiece and of course I will work on a future post analyzing the series vs. The comic going through a secret that Lindelof keept very well hidden: The Peteypedia.

By now this is all for this first 2020 post, I know there still more movies, but that movies belong to my naughty list which I will publish the next week, so see ya later!!!

Tal como el año pasado, les traigo un resumen sobre las películas del género Super Héroes del año, el del año 2018 lo pueden leer ACÁ, en este nuevo post coloqué en orden de mejor a peor las películas del año y para ser sinceros el 2019 resultó un poco mejor en cuanto a películas así que let’s play!

1.- Joker: El año pasado el primer lugar de mi lista lo ocupó una animación: “Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse” Pese a ser una indiscutible obra que nos causó una grata experiencia a muchos fans, fue algo decepcionante que no hubiera una película de Live Action que ocupara este lugar (aunque claro la animación de Spidey dejó una vara muy alta) afortunadamente en el 2019 hubieron mejores propuestas y entre ellas la esperada Joker, desde el primer Teaser Trailer esta película generó muchas expectativas, quizás la cinematografía anterior de Todd Phillips no era su mejor carta de presentación, que pese a no ser mala no parecía llegar a cumplir las expectativas que esta película parecía ofrecer, afortunadamente Phillips logró superar esas expectativas además de la indiscutible actuación de Joaquín Phoenix quién seguramente será uno de los Jokers más emblemáticos del cine, fué una película que estuvo llena de cuestionamientos y con mucha polémica dados los recientes hechos violentos en U.S.A. Cuando una película de esta naturaleza genera tanta polémica al final resulta en publicidad gratis pero tambien es arma de doble filo que puede perjudicar a Joker en las premiaciones de los Oscar, sería una pena castigar a Phillips y a Phoenix por temas que al final son políticos, si la academia continúa con su política reciente de ser “Políticamente Correcto” podría perjudicar a esta película, lo cual sería una verdadera lástima, esperemos que corra con la misma suerte y receptividad que en Cannes, aunque para mí fue una joya visual al nivel de películas como “Taxi Driver”, “Raging Bull” y “The Deer Hunter” y no es casualidad que todas estas películas tengan a DeNiro en su cast.

2.- Avengers Endgame: Vaya, en el 2018 “Infinity War” ocupó tambien el segundo lugar al igual que ahora lo hace “Endgame” casualmente me deja la misma sensación que su anterior parte y hasta dediqué un post que pueden leer ACÁ, fue una película ciertamente entretenida, cumplió con el cometido de dar un buen final a lo que ahora se conoce como “Saga del Infinito”, muchos piensan que fue una mala película, en lo personal no creo que fuera mala como tal, pero “Infinity War” fue mucho mejor, realmente ocupa el 2do lugar de mi lista porque simplemente fue una película que debe ocupar ese lugar, nada más que decir.

3.- Spider-Man Far From Home: El 2019 fué muy agitado para el Friendly Neighbourhood y quien lo encarna en la pantalla grande: Tom Holland, muchos nostálgicos sostienen que el mejor actor en ponerse las mallas del arácnido fue Tobey Maguire, pero Holland indiscutiblemente puede pelear ese lugar con Maguire, ya que con Endgame y FFH superó a Maguire en apariciones como el trepa muros más querido del cine, FFH digamos que sirvió de trampolín a aquella polémica (aparentemente resuelta) entre Marvel y Sony tema el cual dediqué un post que pueden leer ACÁ, la buena taquilla de FFH solo hizo que la codicia de Sony emergiera al mejor estilo de un villano de Spider-Man para quemar algunos puentes que permitieran seguir viendo a Holland encarnar a Spidey en el MCU, aparentemente una conversación de Holland con altos directivos de ambas empresas permitieron llegar a algunos acuerdos: Una potencial 3ra. (posiblemente última) película de Holland en el MCU y algunos cameos además del compromiso de Kevin Feige de estar al mando en cada participación de Spidey han calmado las aguas, pero hey, nada está escrito y quien pudiera beneficiarse de forma indirecta sería en todo caso Venom y Tom Hardy ya que hipotéticamente pudiera abrir las puertas al simbiote al MCU.

4.- Shazam!: Para mí la película que cierra la etapa del DCEU, una película para público netamente infantil que siento dejo mucho en deuda pero se agradece la intención de quitar esa sombra oscura a lo Snyder que caracterizaron a las películas de DC/Warner en los últimos años que digamos funcionó para algunas películas pero para otras no (no todo puede ser oscuro y siniestro como Batman) la película deja la puerta abierta a una inminente segunda parte la cual espero que mejoren ciertos aspectos que no funcionaron, tambien la llegada de Black Adam al cine interpretado por “The Rock” es un ingrediente adicional que da mucho interés en las futuras secuelas del Gran Queso Rojo.

5.- Brightburn: Este proyecto secreto y personal de James Gunn paso casi de forma inadvertida pero con un relativo éxito, al menos tuvo una receptividad que creo superó las expectativas y ciertamente cumplió con su cometido lo cual creo que deja casi segura su eventual segunda parte.

6.- Capitana Marvel: Ésta película sirvió de introducción a Endgame y como bienvenida a la Capitana Marvel al MCU, ambientada en los 90’s su punto fuerte fue la nostalgia y permitió la introducción de personajes grandes de Marvel: Los Skrulls (lo cual abre muchas otras posibilidades) y Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel/Photon, pero se sintió realmente muy apurada considerando tambien lo fugaz de la aparición de Carol Danvers en Endgame, para ser la primera solo movie de una Super-heroina en el MCU resultó bien pero dejaron mucho en deuda con el personaje, merece más.

Mencion especial

1.- Watchmen: Este post es dedicado exclusivamente al cine del género de Super-Héroes, sin embargo creo que Watchmen merece una mención especial porque fué un verdadero éxito, personalmente tenía muchas dudas teniendo en cuenta la previa adaptación de Snyder, particularmente porque no se sabía si sería una precuela o secuela ¿Pero secuela de qué? ¿La película de Snyder? ¿Del cómic? ¿De ambos? afortunadamente estas dudas se disiparon y de la mejor manera, Damon Lindelof con la asesoría de Dave Gibbons nos brindaron una espectacular secuela de la obra maestra de Alan Moore, Lindelof hizo bien su tarea y mantuvo fiel la obra de Moore/Gibbons y por supuesto que trabajaré en un post futuro analizando la serie Vs. El cómic pasando por un AS bajo la manga que Lindelof supo guardar muy bien: La Peteypedia.

Yo se que faltan algunas películas por mencionar, pero las dejé para otro análisis en las peores películas del 2019 o el lado B del año que publicré la próxima semana, así que nos vemos!
