Book Review - Bake Anime - COMIC CRUSADERS

Bake Anime is one of several cookbooks on the market today that caters to the growing number of fans that want to be able to cook the food that is featured in their favorite anime franchise. Disparate anime from Shokugeki Nu Soma to Ristorante Paradiso to even Himatou! Imaru Chan feature a variety of different foods or food combinations that fans of those shows want to experience for themselves. My daughters and I, all of us fans of anime, decided to try out the recipes from this book and let you know the results.

First and foremost, Bake Anime is a sweets and pastries cookbook featuring over 75 different recipes. Those deserts fall into three categories – Japanese desserts, Non-Japanese desserts and anime inspired desserts. (check below to see if your favorite anime has a dessert in the book). The level of baking expertise required by the recipes varies. On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being a novice baker and 5 being a pastry chef) the average recipe here requires a 3.5 degree of skill to cook though there are recipes for all skill levels within the pages of Bake Anime. My daughters and I made several items to include Queen’s Tart, Japanese Strawberry Shortcake, Nerikiri and Ohagi and we found the instructions helpful and relatively easy to follow. We had a few disasters but we were able to quickly rectify the problem and were more than satisfied with the results while having fun at the same time.

The one complaint we did have about the cookbook is that some recipes required specific molds or cooking equipment that we did not need. This is hardly a deal breaker but we were disappointed that we could not make some of our favorite recipes, at least until we buy the proper equipment.

All in all this is very fun cookbook for the beginner and experience cook alike. I am a home cook while one of my daughters is on her way to culinary school and we were both able to use this book and enjoy it. I highly recommend this book to people who love to cooks desserts, are fans of anime or both.
