About this time, Liv slapped the royal off Lynch, which led to a sloppy roll out the ring for the champ. This was brushed over as the misstep was followed by kicks from Liv that resembled something of Crash Bandicoot breaking boxes in search of wampa fruit. Barely into the second half, Lynch started talking to herself to psych up, something viewers usually only see her do against her fellow Horsewomen, which in action legitimized Liv as a threat, for anyone still doubting her presence on the card. Constantly taunting the crowd attempting to live up to the GOAT title stitched on the back of her jacket, Lynch went around during the duration of this match taking kick after kick. While missing some of her own signature moves or delivering incomplete leg-drops and man slams, Liv’s gorilla presses and sunset powerbombs from the mat or the ropes were things of beauty.
These instances of the match along with the video package of Liv’s come up, sold Liv to viewers as a reputable potential champion : who though eating canvas constantly, could also perform devastating moves through an arsenal focused on her natural body strengths like a “DOA” game character. None of this was enough though to get WWE to pull the trigger in this story told mostly through stomps and dropkicks as “The Mom” ended up teasing another win using leverage from the ropes, but ended up retaining while countering Liv’s signature, The Oblivion.
Liv vs. Lynch was hard – hitting and had both competitors pulling out signature maneuvers to outlast their other, but with so much of the WWE Universe behind Liv’s ascent, the least WWE Creative could have given her was another questionable defeat by heel Lynch. But since “The Mom” beat her clean, it’s on to the next competitor, and Liv will find herself in mid-card mediocrity for the rest of 2022, all from Day One.
