Here are all the things you need to know about the upcoming cartoonish basketball movie.

Release Date

A sequel for Space Jam was a subject of discussion ever since 1997, but it was not until 2014 when the project really started to take shape. Here we are almost five years later and we will finally see a Space Jam 2.

LeBron James the Leader of the Space Jam 2 Squad

Space Jam wouldn’t be that interesting if there isn’t an NBA superstar in the movie such as Michael Jordan or LeBron James.

It is understandable why Michal Jordan will not reprise his role from the first movie, but this didn’t stop a fan from asking his opinion of the sequel’s star.

Michael Jordan said that he’d love to see Blake Griffin as the star of Space Jam 2, but the director had a different idea in mind.

Understandable: LeBron is the icon of the current generation and even if you don’t know much about basketball he is a recognizable name. You can visit website of TwinSpires Edge to find his name ranking high on the NBA odds.

Apart from one of the most iconic players in the NBA, Space Jam has rounded a couple of more interesting actors, such as The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green playing James’ wife, and the Oscar-nominee and the War Machine from Marvel will play the villain.

The best thing about this movie, if you are an NBA fan is that other athletes will be joining LeBron in his journey. There are plenty of rumors that more NBA players will be casting in this movie, such as Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, and a couple of others.

Official Synopsis

Warner Bros. provided us with an official synopsis of the film and it is about the Looney Toons squat with LeBron James taking on the A.I “Goons”. From the announcement, we can see that Space Jam 2 is much more of a family story compared to the first one.

Warner Bros. said that this manic mashup of two worlds is the best way to unite parents with their kids. LeBron and his young son Dom will be trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I and LeBron must get them safe home by leading Lola and Bugs Bunny along with other cartoon members.

The match between the Looney Toons and the A.I Goons will redefine Lebron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself.

So, apart from being an exciting family movie, Space Jam 2 also carries a message.

Production

Ryan Coogler is producing the film, which is great since he produced Black Panther one of the most successful Marvel movies. He wrote the film along with Sev Ohanian, so the stakes are high.

Malcolm D. Lee (Night School, Girls Trip) is directing the movie, taking over from Terence Nance with a script from Juel Taylor, Keenan Coogler,  Terrance Nance, and Tony Rettenmaier.

Final Words

The only thing negative about a sequel is that people expect a lot from it, and since it is a couple of months away, we cannot wait to see what the 25 years of waiting will bring with the latest Space Jam 2.

It will definitely be a movie for all the basketball fans and an awesome family-friendly movie that will reunite you with your kids, just like LeBron’s journey.
