Jane Handcock Brings Her Album to Life with Short Film It’s Me, Not You, Produced by Death Row Pictures

Fresh off the success of her album It’s Me, Not You, Jane Handcock expands the story with a new short film sharing the same title. Produced by Death Row Pictures and directed by Jo Lenz, alongside Snoop Dogg, the film reimagines the themes of Jane’s music through narrative storytelling, love, and self-discovery. In an exclusive interview with Snoop Dogg, also released via YouTube today, we get some new insight into Jane and her relationship with music. Watch the interview HERE

The film was first celebrated with an intimate Bay Area screening on Tuesday, September 9th, honoring Jane’s hometown roots. A second private screening took place in Los Angeles on September 11th at Cinépolis, followed by an exclusive after-party that brought together industry tastemakers, talent, and collaborators.

The film opens with Jane at home, reflecting on her purpose: “As long as I can remember, I always wanted to help people find love. Maya Angelou said, ‘Love recognizes no barriers.’ I don’t care what’s going on in life, if you want love, you will have it.” From there, viewers follow Jane in her role as a beloved streaming host, taking calls from listeners seeking guidance on relationships.

As she balances giving advice and pouring into others, Jane begins receiving repeated calls from a mysterious male voice. His persistence and charm spark her intrigue, pulling her into the very kind of connection she helps others navigate.

The story deepens with a guest appearance from Tiffany Haddish, who plays Jane’s friend and confidant, reminding her that while she gives love to everyone else, she deserves to receive it, too. The narrative crescendos as the mystery caller dedicates a song to Jane, further blurring the line between her professional advice and personal longing.

Threaded throughout the film are musical moments from Handcock’s project It’s Me, Not You, weaving her sonic world into the visuals. The climax arrives as Jane performs at a church service, where she finally meets the man behind the calls, leading to an intimate connection. In a twist ending, Snoop Dogg himself calls into Jane’s stream, asking what she plans to do with all the music she’s been playing and offering her a deal with Death Row Records. The film closes with Jane’s unforgettable line: “Well, I guess it’s welcome to Death Row.”
