Danceteria was an iconic spot that was famous for introducing groundbreaking art (it was a major hang for spot JMB, who was dating Madonna at the time), video, style/fashion, and most importantly, music. It’s also where Sade, LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys, and Madonna got their starts (she worked at the club as a coat room checker).

Danceteria REWIND serves up diverse rhythmic genres in a beatmatched flow that replicates the Danceteria’s singular vibe, including reggae, mutant disco, early electro/rap/hip hop, pre-industrial/EDM, underground no wave, nu salsa/boogaloo, and more. All of these genres exploded across the city in the early 80s, merged at Danceteria, and provided a soundtrack for JMB’s world of the downtown art/style/culture scene.
Given the abrupt interruption of “Heroes & Monsters”, Danceteria REWIND offers JMB’s fans a new way to experience the sonic inspirations that guided his art.
