Metalface Records & Rhymesayers Re-Release MF DOOM’s Metal Fingers Presents: Special Herbs Collection
The re-release of MF DOOM’s Special Herbs collection, released under his Metal Fingers alias, is out today via Metalface Records and Rhymesayers Entertainment. The seminal collection has been repackaged for re-release on colored vinyl for the first time, with custom-built “rolling paper” gatefold jackets. The series has also been made available on CD with newly custom-built cases, as well as cassettes. Additionally, a merchandise capsule that includes shirts, sweatshirts, and a Super7 ReAction Figure is also offered with the collection, available now at gasdrawls.com.
One of the most expansive instrumental hip hop series to date, MF DOOM’s lauded Special Herbs collection assembles a mountainous collection of his beats, ranging from series exclusives to slightly reworked favorites he produced for himself and others. Released under the alias Metal Fingers, Special Herbs succeeds at capturing DOOM’s highly influential sound which continually breaks and reinterprets the rules of the game in favor of The Super-Villain. The world is a treasure trove of sounds, and the Metal-Fingered DOOM accepts no limits; ’70s Soul/Funk classic, ’80s R&B hits, rap nostalgia, and even soundbites from children’s records & TV all find their place in the ingredients needed to perfect his recipes.

This collection comes on the heels of last years acclaimed MM..FOOD 20th Anniversary release, which was celebrated with the orchestral DOOM tribute performance ‘FM MOOD’ at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, which featured Erykah Badu and Madlib, and was conducted by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.
One of Hip-Hop’s most beloved anti-heroes, the ever-inventive MF DOOM (often referred to as simply DOOM) has received widespread praise for his sharp, candid rhymes, as well as his choppy, sample-heavy production style. Initially known as Zev Love X, a member of the short-lived but influential Golden Era rap group K.M.D, the MC/producer born Daniel Dumile re-emerged at the end of the ’90s with a persona inspired by the Marvel Comics super-villain Dr. Doom. He reinforced his enigmatic presence by donning an elaborate metal mask during all of his public appearances and creating numerous alter egos for specific projects and collaborations. MF DOOM’s music has been described as, “the fine line between insanity and genius”. Unconventional, abstract, unorthodox; these words merely scrape the surface of defining his approach musically, conceptually, even rhythmically.
