Alongside reading about their missions in comic books and watching them destroy enemies in the movies, many people can’t resist playing along as iconic superheroes in the gaming world. However, sadly, we’ve been exposed to some terrible superhero games over the years, many of which are still being discussed today.

With some of the best games ever featuring superheroes people know and love, it makes these frankly shoddy products stand out even more. With gamers everywhere ditching these titles in favor of an EA Sports FC 26 marathon and an online craps games experience, they’ve generally failed to lure enough gamers in and have even led to some players leaving the superhero genre of gaming altogether. Sadly, not every product featuring powerful crime fighters and extraordinary abilities has hit the spot with gaming communities. Below, we remember five of them.

Batman Forever

Batman games haven’t always delivered, and while we’ve seen some exceptional products containing Bruce Wayne, Batman Forever most definitely isn’t one of them. Even the staunchest supporters of Batman will tell you to avoid this one. Not only did Batman Forever offer unresponsive controls and battles that lasted far too long, but it also came with no real plus points. Sure, the variety of attacks players could pull off was solid enough, but that was pretty much it. In the end, Batman Forever was an undoubted failure.

Iron Man

Iron Man is a much-loved superhero. However, the comic book character has only really become known around the world since Robert Downey Jr. played the prominent Marvel Comics superhero in the movies. The game with the same name, therefore, excited a lot of gamers, although it turned out to be a huge letdown. The title’s graphics were poor, the gameplay was boring, and the voice acting on display was painfully bad. Overall, where Iron Man has shone in cinemas, he most definitely disappointed in the Iron Man game.

The Amazing Spider-Man

While some retro games are making a comeback in the modern world, The Amazing Spider-Man most definitely won’t. This Game Boy product was a side-scrolling brawler with plenty of promise when it was announced. However, it was a clear disappointment when it eventually landed as Spider-Man himself looked more like the The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Additionally, the jumping was terrible, the punching was embarrassingly bad, and the swinging was ridiculously overpowered. Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man really wasn’t amazing.

Marvel’s Avengers

When the plans for Marvel’s Avengers were announced, superhero lovers were understandably thrilled. After all, who wouldn’t want to take charge of The Hulk and experience life as an iconic superhero like Captain America? Sadly, though, while the game promised a lot, it delivered very little. In the end, it died after just three years, with bugs hindering its launch, a boring endgame turning many players off the release, and a distinct lack of new content that made the game feel like lazy creation. A product that most definitely failed to live up to its initial billing, Marvel’s Avengers clearly failed.

Superman 64

Another superhero game to forget, Superman 64 was filled with alarming issues. From its appalling lag to its ridiculously bad graphics, it didn’t really have anything going for it. For many gamers, it’s actually the worst superhero game on the list, with nothing really positive to highlight. While players could fly through rings, it became a real annoyance as it felt like the only thing the game’s makers focused on. In the end, it was nothing more than a tedious gaming package, with many Superman fans deeming it the worst Superman game they’ve ever witnessed.
