RYL0 taps REYSHA RAMI for cheeky club pop anthem “Ambrosia”
“On the surface, ‘Ambrosia’ is meant to be this really gaggy club track about being That Bitch everywhere you go. Underneath that though, I wanted to speak to the competitive nature of living out this “It Girl” narrative that’s so pushed in the pop space right now. It’s super indulgent, and fun, but it can also be extremely egotistical in a way that feels similar to Greek Gods resting on their laurels and drinking Ambrosia in the heavens, hence the name.
There’s a lot of pressure to be seen all the time, and it’s just not authentic to pretend that I don’t compare myself to others at times, whether it’s strangers, peers, or friends. It felt important to me to have my own friends (ChiChi and Reysha) on this track especially, not only because they’re incredible talented and brought they’re own unique sound to the track, but also because I feel like it’s something we can all relate to as pop girls. It’s actually a little meta and I think that’s what really gives the song so much power.” – RYLO
Underground pop artist RYL0 has just unveiled her new single “Ambrosia,” a club pop banger featuring REYSHA RAMI (creator of the breakout club hit “blackOut”) and singer-songwriter ChiChi. Produced by Taydex (Joji, Jon Batiste, Dawn Richard, Anderson .Paak) and AOBeats (F5ve, Slayyyter, 6arleyhuman, Ayesha Erotica), “Ambrosia” follows up RYL0’s electro-inspired single “Party Monster,” which was made with the same production team. The track also releases in the wake of RYL0 completely selling out her recent Last Resort: Beach Club vinyl order.
Over the past year, pop provocateur RYL0 has emerged as one of the genre’s most dynamic rising voices. Following the release of her cult-classic mixtape Last Resort: Beach Club – an eclectic pop masterclass that featured collaborations with Purity Ring’s Corin Roddick, Mel 4Ever, HYRA, and more – the New Jersey-bred, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter opened for underscores at a sold out show at LA’s famed El Rey venue, collaborated with That Kid on fan favorite track “Dirty Shirley,” and was even interviewed for an official Google Doodle on the history of hyperpop. As a result of these accomplishments and more, RYL0 has become not only a singular creative force in the underground pop space, but also one of the scene’s most important representatives.
Now, RYL0 is feeding her fans again with “Ambrosia,” a pulsating pop heater that seamlessly mixes the illuminating talents of its vocalists and producers. Kicking off with a fiery verse from RYL0 singing over a glossy four-on-the-floor instrumental, the song instantly immerses the listener into its central attitude – a track filled to the brim with supremely confident, Main Pop Girl energy.
“So what I’m a Bitch/Top dog so I’m gonna sit/Looks like you’re not on the list/ Looks like you’re not that it/Girl with X-factor/Girl with star power/I’m climbing the ladder/Yeah I’m getting higher,” RYL0 spits with immaculate flow, before dropping into an infectiously melodic hook enveloped by bruising electro bass synths, crisp hi-hats, and sparkly arpeggios.
But “Ambrosia” warrants an even closer listen: underneath the hood of the track’s seemingly impenetrable swagger is a cheeky self-awareness aimed at the absurdity of trying to be the ‘It Girl.’
“Why not me/I’m the baddest on the scene/I’m a nightmare, I’m a dream/So why not me?,” RYL0 sings in the chorus, a lyric that is as equally defiant as it is parodic – a nuanced tone that RYL0 straddles as only she knows how.
