SoundCloud Showcases the Future of Latin Experimental Electronic Music
SCENES, SoundCloud’s acclaimed music discovery docu-series, returns with an electrifying new season: SCENES: Latin Experimental Electronic, presented by Toyota Corolla. This season, SCENES dives deep into the underground and avant-garde movements reshaping Latin American and U.S. electronic music, where traditional rhythms collide with futuristic soundscapes. The series spotlights emerging artists who are reshaping the global electronic landscape through their experimental approaches, featuring pioneering creators Sinego, 2DEEP, Bianca Oblivion, and Nick León.
From Mexico City’s pulsating clubs to Miami’s bass-heavy experimentation, from L.A.’s hybrid underground to global platforms like SoundCloud, Latin artists are at the forefront of a movement that defies categorization. Using SoundCloud’s proprietary data, including early charting trends, community interactions, and play growth metrics, SCENES tracks how these pioneers are evolving the sound of electronic music through their unique artistic visions.
“This episode of SCENES is about breaking boundaries and celebrating the bold experimentation Latin artists are making in Electronic music,” says Andrea Ropp, US Brand Partnerships Director at SoundCloud. “These artists are shaping a genre that refuses to be boxed in, and SoundCloud is proud to be the platform amplifying their voices.”
Toyota, a brand deeply connected to cultural innovation, is joining SoundCloud on this journey. “We’re thrilled to join SoundCloud once again for a captivating series highlighting young Latin artists at the forefront of the Latin electronic music movement,” says Andrew George, Sr. Analyst, Media, Model & Series, Integrated Marketing Operations, Toyota Motor North America. “Toyota continues committed to championing music discovery and providing audiences an opportunity to see and hear talented artists who reflect their strong drive to forge ahead to the beat of their own song.”
Meet the Artists Shaping Latin Experimental Electronic Music, the series highlights four influential artists who are defining this movement:
Sinego
Sinego is the face of a new generation of Latin dance music. Blurring the lines between deep house, organic electronica, and traditional Latin sounds, Sinego is at the forefront of Mexico City’s electronic renaissance. With roots in Colombia and a global fan base, Alterego, his debut album, is an ode to Latin folk music. The album is an ambitious journey across the region, blending modern dance aesthetics with the regional genres of a different country for each song. A definitive biography of Latin dance influences, each track taps on regional collaborators including Cuban Grammy-nominated vocalist Cucu Diamantes, Puerto Rican songwriting icon Millo Torres, and frequent collaborator Lucy Vives (daughter of Colombian pop legend Carlos Vives). Alterego has been remixed by Xinobi and El Búho and additionally features Mexico’s YoSoyMatt, Cuba’s Pauza, Chile’s Fernando Milagros, Argentina’s Kermesse, Portugal’s Moullinex, Mexico’s Pahua (Sotomayor) and more.
2DEEP
2DEEP, is an Ecuadorian/Colombian DJ and producer, born in the Bronx, NY and raised for part of his life in Guayaquil, Ecuador. A transplant to Los Angeles, 2DEEP has been pushing a distinct electronic Latin sound creating innovative and seamless fusions between a variety of genres – Urban Latin, Reggaeton, Latin Electronic, Guaracha, and EDM. His productions are a collision of hard-hitting beats and cultural storytelling, making him a key voice in the evolution of the genre. In 2022, he became the first DJ/producer to be signed to Dim Mak En Fuego. 2DEEP is a RIAA Latin platinum producer for his role in producing “NATAOKI” with Steve Aoki and Natanael Cano. He is currently working on his first EP which will be released later this year and continues to collaborate with Steve Aoki on his Latin tracks, as well as DJ around the world. Beyond his work as a producer, 2DEEP is also a founder of Reggaetonlandia, one of Los Angeles’ biggest and fastest-growing party and concert series.
Bianca Oblivion
Born and raised in the City of Angels, the globe-trotting, genre-hopping, hard-hustling artist—who was named by Mixmag as one of 2023’s breakthrough DJs of the year and Beatport Next’s class of 2024—is unbound by dance music orthodoxy, opting instead for an “anything goes as long as it bangs” approach that reflects the unique cultural palette of her hometown. Growing up Mexican in LA, Bianca heard G-funk blasting out of cars and cumbia coming out of the stereo at backyard BBQs, and during her teen years, she started spending her nights soaking up electro, house and all sorts of heavy bass music, most often in the city’s vibrant underground club and warehouse rave scene.
Nick León
Nick León’s dystopian club music samples the sounds of Florida’s diverse ecosystem, but his style has varied fearlessly along the way. Making his way into the rap world at a young age, he collaborated with some of the biggest underground rappers in South Florida. He gravitated early towards the Latin sounds coming out of Puerto Rico and Colombia, and as a self-taught producer and DJ in Miami, he felt compelled to shift his focus to his own work. After pivoting towards textural elements and buried melodies, Nick released a handful of projects, one of them being his Aguacero EP under Mexico’s celebrated NAAFI imprint. It encapsulates the growing anxiety in a city threatened by the very things that help make it beautiful, inviting you to dance through the impending storm of uncertainty ushered in by climate change.
