The Ever-Growing Star Wars Franchise

When George Lucas was signing over the prized gems of LucasArts to Disney, he probably did not realize how much Disney would manage to profit from its investment. The Star Wars franchise is constantly getting bigger and more valuable, generating billions from its movies, its series and its merchandise. Some fans get their daily Star Wars “dose” by using a Star Wars-themed coffee mug, others by watching marathons of the 9-movie series, graphic novel fans do it by reading Marvel’s Star Wars comic books, and streamers by watching Mandalorian and Obi-Wan on Disney+.

The Disney Brand Guarantees Success

Disney is one of the world’s most successful enterprises, and this did not happen because of Goofy and Cinderella. The company has purchased the rights to key entertainment content. If one were to compare Disney to other companies, you can see this rush to acquire branded content playing out elsewhere. Online casinos, for example, often use branded games based on movies, including Top Gun and Gladiator, and other elements of pop culture to offer players an alternative to classic slots like Crazy 7. Microsoft, which purchased the ZeniMax Media group in order to control the rights and the distribution of games like Elder Scrolls and Fallout is another example. The rush for branded intellectual property is on.

Disney and all its subsidiaries can find ways to turn a product into a goldmine and in the case of Star Wars, this process did not require a lot of effort. Star Wars fans have dozens of options, regardless if they want to find out more about a Star Wars story through reading a comic book or by watching a movie on Disney+. The mother company will take all necessary measures in order to give its customers access to what they need, regardless if it is a feature printed on paper, a digital copy of a book or a movie one can watch online or in theatres.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Things Done Well and Things that Could Have Been Done Better

The Obi-Wan series is the hottest content currently available on Disney+ and most viewers seem to like what they see. However, there are certain things that could have been done better. The first scene that got negative reviews is when Leia “dribbles” through the bounty hunters. The second scene is when Obi-Wan uses the Force to stop a glass from breaking and, at the same time, saveS everyone from drowning, and last but not least, the scene with the memory of Obi-Wan fighting a “mature” young Hayden Christensen. Apart from these three scenes, Obi-Wan is a top-level series, which was worth every penny that was spent for its production.

High Hopes for Andor

Obi-Wan is not the only Star Wars feature scheduled for the summer of 2022. Disney+ is releasing Andor on the 31st of August and Star Wars fans hope that it will be just as good as Obi-Wan, Boba Fett and the Mandalorian. Diego Luna will once again appear on the screen as a Star Wars universe character, assuming the role of Cassian Andor. Together with Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw and with a cast of young and talented actors, Luna will give Star Wars fans one more reason to subscribe to Disney+.
