The History of the Jedi Order

To write this story, I was inspired by the text that I read on the paperslead review, well let’s go! For more than a thousand generations, the Galactic Republic, the democratic union, was kept safe by the Jedi Order. In the Star Wars, we are introduced to the Jedi, the guardians of the Republic. But who are they really? We will have to go back in time and see the history behind the most powerful order in the Galaxy.

The Jedi history begins approximately 10.000 years prior to the Star Wars timeline. Initially, the Je“Daii studied the light and dark side of the Force equally. They focused on the balance of the Force, while if one would fall deeply to either side, they would go to exile for meditation until they would restore the balance. After the bloody civil war took place, mostly known as the first conflict between the light and the dark side, the Jedi order was created and proceeded by following the light side to join the Galactic Republic as its protectors of peace. They became a monastic peacekeeping organization, observing and utilising the light side of the Force.

During the Star Wars timeline, we see the Jedi Order to have their headquarters at Coruscant, the current political centre of the Galaxy. The Jedi Temple had the library, the academy and the monastery of the Order.

Their whole lives were in that Temple, from young padawans, taken from their homes to their ascending as Jedi, wielding the lightsaber. It served as the HQ of the Jedi High Council, the highest governing body of the Order, consisted of the twelve Jedi Masters.

The centric story begins when the Republic is threatened by the corrupt Trade Federation, a blockade secretly orchestrated by Senator Palpatine / Darth Sidious.

His plans were to bring the Republic down and help the rise of the Galactic Empire under the control of the Sith. Because of his actions, the clone wars began. This battle lasted three years and was considered to be between the Republic and the Separatists, in order to prevent thousands of planetary systems from seceding from the Galactic Republic. The real reason is later revealed to be the extermination of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire. The battle was named after the clones that served the war for the Republic. On the third and final year of the war, all seemed to be getting in place, with the Separatists were outcast to the outer rim, territories, creating the campaign Outer Rim Sieges. However, in the end, Palpatine manages to fulfil his plans, turning the Jedi Anakin Skywalker into a Sith, named Lord Vader. Afterwards, the clones were given the famous order 66 by Palpatine and turned against their initial side, killing numerous Jedi, thus beginning the era of the Sith and the Galactic Empire.

After the clone wars, the remaining Jedi went into hiding due to Palpatine who not only had given the order to exterminate them all but also had convinced the people that the Jedi were corrupted warmongers.

During this time, we see Jedi Master Obi-One Kenobi (one of the last two surviving Jedi) to be found by none other than our beloved Luke Skywalker (son of Darth Vader/ Anakin Skywalker). Obi-one began training him to the ways of the Force, despite his pain of losing his first apprentice, Anakin, to the dark side, thus not fulfilling his destiny of bringing the balance to the Force. Obi-One and Luke started their journey to restore the Jedi Order, picturing him as the Jedis last hope. Luke learns early on that the Jedi were gone twenty years ago and that Darth Vader was responsible without knowing the truth about his father.

The story continues with Luke being trained as Jedi by the last remaining Jedi, Master Yoda. In this timeline, he learns of his origins, his father, Anakin Skywalker. Through hardships, he proceeds and ends his training, finally opposing Darth Vader. This was the turning point to the Jedi history, as everyone believed that Vader was fully overtaken by the dark side and yet in the end, with the help of his son, he fulfils his destiny as a Jedi (and no longer a Sith) and together they destroy the Empire.

While it looks like the future of the Jedi order is being restored, in later years the dark side remains strong. Luke Skywalker, the last of the Jedi, focused his efforts on training his nephew to become a Jedi Knight. However, from the ashes of the fallen Empire, the First Order has risen with the sole aim to reclaim the control of the Galaxy. Supreme Leader Snoke, the leader of the First Order, lured Luke“s nephew, Ben (son of Leia Organa, sister of Luke and Han Solo), to the Dark side of the Force, thus creating Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren is shown to have aspirations to become as powerful as his grandfather, Darth Vader.

The history of the Jedi Order is vast and full of bloodshed, despite them being the keepers of the peace. Many argue that the Jedi and the Sith must always exist for the balance to exist. Even though the Sith are corrupted by the dark side, we know that there is a light side also and this is what keeps us keeping our hope for the restoration of the balance. May the Force be with you.
