The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Leak Leads To More Questions

by Jane Sandwood

Nintendo has certainly been taking its time in developing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Despite having released two trailers for the game, the name of the upcoming release hasn’t been forthcoming. It’s simply been referred to as “the sequel to Breath of the Wild” and not the actual game name. Until now that is. A leak has revealed that the new title is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Duality.

Hints To The Plot

Whether or not this name is what Nintendo will settle on remains to be seen, but sources say that the leaked title gives players a major hint as to what direction the game will take. Fans familiar with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will know that The Edge of Duality is a double handled Sheikah Sword with a base attack power of 15. These swords were crafted for the Knights of Hyrule using the Sheikah’s special technology. The Knights were not used to a single edged blade and the brown bladed, blue, and gold handled weapons played a poignant role in Breath of the Wild. Since 1986 every Zelda game name has provided a major hint to the storyline and the characters it will involve. Now, fans are hoping this is the case once more.

Rumors Abound About The Sequel

While the fan favorite Legend of Zelda characters will always be the heroic Link, the wise and worldly Zelda, and the villainous Ganon, there are dozens of other characters and character groups woven into the game’s storylines. Based on the new game being called The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Duality it’s expected that the action will focus heavily on the Sheikah, also called the Shadow Folk.

The Sheikah are a secretive, mysterious tribe of humanoid beings that are the chosen guardians of the Goddess Hylia. While they were mentioned in the Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess, they only made their debut in Breath of the Wild. This makes it even more likely that the leak has some substance to it.

Will Nintendo Stick To The Schedule?

Nintendo isn’t confirming anything about the leak, but now that the potential name is floating around, fans have even more questions. Initially, the release was set for the end of 2002, and it was expected that there would be a summer promotional campaign that would hype it up and provide more sneak peeks into what players can expect. However, now there’s talk that the game will only make it out in 2023.

In November, Nintendo is set to release Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a game that’s already got a lot more press, far more confirmation of secrets and character involvement, and an ever-growing fan base. It’s hard to imagine that Nintendo will run a dual release campaign for Pokémon and a new The Legend of Zelda release.

If anything, the way it looks right now is that they’ll simply postpone the release of the new Zelda game to 2023 and focus all their energy on Pokémon. Delays like these are not uncommon, and Zelda fans have been here before. But even just getting confirmation that the leaked name is correct – or isn’t – would make a lot of gamers happy right now.
