SUPERMAN:The Art and Making of the Film By James Field
Introduction by James Gunn
Foreword by David Corenswet
SUPERMAN: The Art and Making of the Film reveals an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at DC Studios’ hugely successful first feature film, Superman, from writer/director/producer James Gunn. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film was one of the most successful big-screen events of Summer 2025, earning over $615 million at the global box office.
Author James Field documents every stage of the epic film’s production, having conducted interviews with all of the film’s key creatives, including Gunn and his DC Studios co-Chair and co-CEO, the film’s producer Peter Safran, on their earliest conversations about their vision for Superman, the DC comic books they would turn to for inspiration, costume and set design, and postproduction FX. Additionally, the book includes an introduction from Gunn, a foreword by Superman himself, David Corenswet, and a plethora of concept art and unit photography.
Featured are production designer Beth Mickle’s Metropolis—inspired directly by the art of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster—and her staggeringly beautiful Fortress of Solitude, the Daily Planet offices, and other locations in the film, along with character designs and Judianna Makovsky’s costume designs for David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. And, of course, Krypto the Superdog!
SUPERMAN: The Art and Making of the Film is the ultimate companion to the first live-action feature film entry in DC Studios’ DC Universe canon.
Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
DC Studios presents a Troll Court Entertainment/The Safran company production, a James Gunn film, Superman, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
