WRESTLING REVIEW: Vengeance Day X

While I was getting robbed of backpacker goods in South Florida, Central Florida was the center of the pro-wrestling world’s attention as the Women’s Tag titles were on the line during another annual installment of NXT’s Vengeance Day.

Toxic Attraction was lead out by the women’s champ, with nothing but gold in their corner. Yet somehow, Jacey Dane appeared to be the only woman really into her gimmick , moving with emotion to the Toxic theme as the faction made their way to the ring. The only gold on the competitors side of the ring was the wedding band that Hartwell kissed on her way through the point, at that point whereupon a surprise attack was launched upon the challengers that had Indi and Pirotta kissing canvas. This was followed by some of the most effortless cannonballs that I have ever seen launched by Dane on her opponents, but the offense from the champ was shortly cut off as Indi Hartwell delivered a clothesline that is sure to make her the Queen of Hel, since that looks to be where she gets her mythological power from to pull off such a devastating maneuver with such force.

Despite the challengers defense, somehow Hartwell ended up in the wrong corner and received punishment for the better half of five minutes, selling every blow that she took into the turnbuckle until she was worked around the ring by Dane who vindictively stomped in to the lower back of Indi and turned that show of disrespect swiftly into what could have been a career ending backbreaker. With enough rallying from the crowd, Indi was able to power out of the submission attempt and the two wrestlers with the best chemistry in this match ended up cancelling each other out as they launched at each other with crossbodies and found themselves winded and tagging in their respective partners.

Dolin, ended up getting off a few kicks here and there that Pirotta seemingly absorbed as she courageously went over to the champions corner and stacked up both her opponents in a fireman’s carry position to pull off a double Samoan drop to fully show off her capacity for strength. Pirotta then followed this up with a suplex straight out of Lesnar’s textbook, diving after her opponent through the ropes , exercising an offense that more than made up for the weakness Hartwell showed earlier.

Despite the fact that ringleader and NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose was removed earlier from the Dane x Dolin corner, that did not stop the champions from winning with underhanded tactics once Hartwell was tagged back in and Dane ended up tripping Hartwell from behind outside the ring, leading to Dolin x Dane showing why they are the current champions as they cut off Hartwell’s diving elbow and stomped her into the corner, delivering just enough overwhelming punishment to score the pinfall victory.

The dichotomy behind this match to see Hartwell go from heel champ last year to the position of babyface competitor is nothing short of astounding. To get the crowd behind you either way no matter how you are booked is something that most pro-wrestler’s take years to learn, but Indi has been able to hone this affection from the crowd in just her developmental years. Add that to the way that her and Dane worked so well against each other leaving both Dolin and Pirotta in their shadows, the night undoubtedly belonged to Impressive Indi, even if she didn’t walk away with the gold that looks so good on Jayce Dane.
