EPIC CLIMATE FICTION COMIC WE PROMISED UTOPIA RETURNS TO KICKSTARTER FOR SEASON TWO

The science fiction comic Kirkus Reviews calls a “timely, engrossing SF tale with an environmental theme and striking art” that “offers readers just as many reasons to return for the sequel,” launches its crowdfunding campaign for Season Two Monday, November 28. The campaign page is live at Kickstarter and taking pre-launch sign ups now: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/209756764/we-promised-utopia-second-season.

We Promised Utopia is a climate-fiction thriller that comes from the minds of energy-engineer Adrian Morales and geophysicist Robert Holman. With decades of experience in the energy industry, Morales and Holman imagine what could be done to combat climate change and the possible repercussions, both from climatic transformation and human corruption. The epic story is told through three eras, separated by millennia, each drawn by a different artist.

John Eric Osborn portrays a sharp, refined near-present moment as a climate activist maneuvers through the world of politics and celebrity to build momentum to save humanity from environmental disaster; Jonathan Koelsh renders an expansive, lush, and utopic future in which her ideas have led to a thriving world with a rotten core; and Chloe Elimam presents a harsh, distant future where an ice age is again pushing humanity to the brink of extinction.

Deanna Destito of The Beat writes that Season One has “plenty of action, mystery, and complex characters trying to navigate the complicated, and often bleak, universe”; Brett Schenke of Graphic Policy dubs the project “Intriguing,” “ambitious,” and “something different than what’s on the shelves today”; and John Svedese of Indie Comix Dispatch calls it “a promising book with a great idea.”

Crowdfunding is crucial for Season Two. The cost of producing a comic with three different artists working on each issue is high, and a successful campaign will ensure that Season Two releases on a monthly schedule. 100% of the funds, after fees and reward fulfillment, from the Season Two Kickstarter will go directly to paying artists Koelsh, Elimam, and Osborn.

There are great rewards available, including a Digital Pass that gives backers insider access to scripts, process art, and pre-release digital copies of Season Two. Among the other rewards, a limited number of copies of the first printing of We Promised Utopia issue #1 will be available during the campaign, along with issues 2-4 and the collected V1.
