FREESTYLE DIGITAL MEDIA ACQUIRES “BEST BIRTHDAY EVER” FOR NOVEMBER RELEASE
Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired North American VOD rights to the animated family feature film BEST BIRTHDAY EVER, which will be available to rent/own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms in North America, as well as on DVD, starting on November 10, 2023, through Freestyle Digital Media.
BEST BIRTHDAY EVER is a family animation feature based on the best-selling book series by Rotraut Susanne Berner about a small rabbit who lives with his parents and is about to celebrate his 5th birthday. BEST BIRTHDAY EVER tells the story of Little Charlie, a small rabbit who lives with his loving family and pets in a house at the edge of town. Like many five-year olds, Little Charlie goes to a kindergarten and plays with his friends in the neighborhood. He is used to having his parents’ full attention – but all that changes when his baby sister Clara is born, leading to an unexpected adventure with his best friend Monica.
Directed by Michael Ekblad (MOLLY MONSTER), BEST BIRTHDAY EVER is a German-Dutch-Swedish co-production aimed at children aged three to seven, and is based on the book by Rotraut Susanne Berner. BEST BIRTHDAY EVER was written for the screen by Aje Andrea Brücken, and produced by Alexandra Schatz Filmproduktion, Alexandra Schatz, Submarine Sublime, Bruno Felix, Janneke van de Kerkhof, Femke Wolting, Dieter Reinhold, Slugger Film, Michael Ekbladh, ZDF, Film I Skane and Simon Crowe. Featured cast includes Max Lester (‘Charlie’), Beatrice Davies as (‘Monica’), Rufus Bateman as (‘Freddie’), Harry Wright (‘William’), Jonathan Bailey (‘Dad’), Jennifer Saunders (‘Mum’), Adrian Edmondson (‘Grandma’), Anna Francolini (‘Monica’s Mum’), Molly Keane (‘Cousin Cathy’), Elisabeth Marie Schmidt (‘Baby’), and Peter O. Mail (‘Chicken’).
“It was a great adventure in itself to direct a good and exciting movie for younger children,” said filmmaker Michael Ekblad. “BEST BIRTHDAY EVER is a story we try to tell from their own unique perspective. It is a story of courage, acceptance, growing as an individual and understanding the needs of others.”
Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire BEST BIRTHDAY EVER directly with Simon Crowe of SC Films International.
