FREESTYLE DIGITAL MEDIA ACQUIRES DOCUMENTARY “WAKE UP: STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINES OF SUICIDE PREVENTION” FOR SEPTEMBER RELEASE

Mental Health-Focused Documentary Sets Digital Debut for North American VOD Platforms and DVD on September 8, 2023

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired North American VOD rights to the health and wellness-themed documentary WAKE UP: STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINES OF SUICIDE PREVENTION. The documentary will be available to rent/own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms in North America, as well on DVD, starting on September 8, 2023, through Freestyle Digital Media.

WAKE UP: STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINES OF SUICIDE tells the stories of four disparate communities battling the suicide epidemic, weaving intimate stories into an urgent and hopeful call to action. After losing a close friend to suicide, a group of college students from the University of Missouri became determined to enact positive change. They quickly formed a nonprofit, Project Wake Up, premised on spreading awareness and encouraging a cultural shift away from social stigmas surrounding mental illness, depression, and suicide.

WAKE UP: STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINES OF SUICIDE PREVENTION sheds light on four key groups disproportionately affected by suicide: American veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, college students, and gun owners—and the heroes working on those frontlines. WAKE UP confronts tragedy with an inspiring call to action—exploring ways to start thoughtful conversations and pushing for legislative change.

Directed by Nate Townsend and co-written by Nate Townsend & Chris Jones, WAKE UP: STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINES OF SUICIDE PREVENTION was produced by Sean Drummond, Chelsea Bo and Nate Townsend. The documentary features illuminating interviews with Cathy Barber, Dr. Craig Bryan, Cacilia Jensen, Alex Lindley, Dese’Rae Stage, Michael Zibilich and other prominent figures within the areas of mental health and suicide prevention.

“As we enter Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in a few weeks, we are fortunate to have Freestyle Digital Media provide this film and topic a much-needed platform,” said filmmaker Nate Townsend. “Especially in a post-COVID world, mental health is something that affects each and every one of us. While this topic is tragic and difficult, WAKE UP leave viewers with a sense of hope—and desire to take action.”

Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire WAKE UP: STORIES FROM THE FRONT LINES OF SUICIDE PREVENTION directly with Alex Nohe of Blood Sweat and Honey.
