Personal Ideas For Your Comic Book Inspired Wedding

by Jane Sandwood

Every year there are 1.68 million weddings in America, but every single one of those weddings is unique to the couple. Some people choose to get married in a big white dress or a smart tuxedo. Some people tie the knot on the beach and some enjoy a Medieval celebration. Incorporating your hobbies and passions into your wedding is a great way of personalizing the day. If you love comic books, that doesn’t mean you have to get married in a full cosplay outfit. There are lots of other fun ways of bringing comic pop culture into your wedding.

Comic book photography

Your wedding photos don’t have to be of groups of people standing still in rows, you could create the ultimate adventure book – a tale of good vs evil where love ultimately triumphs. Give each of your wedding guests a persona to take on and you can have some real fun together taking some action shots. It is also a great way for guests that don’t know each other to interact. After the wedding you can get all your photos made into a fun book to give to friends and family. Don’t forget to add the speech bubbles and k’pows though!

Your own traditions

Many weddings follow traditions that have special meanings that date back hundreds of years. For instance you may wear on your wedding day, “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” Something old is to represent your family connections and something new is for good fortune. At your wedding, however, you could start your own traditions based on your favorite comic book character quotes. Superman said “You are stronger than you think you are.” For this you could wear a bangle to represent strength. Wonder Woman said “I am who the world needs me to be.” For this you could wear a star to represent self-love and acceptance.

Comic book food

When you are having a special wedding, the last thing you want is for your wedding reception to look like a children’s party. However, you can still have a nod to your favorite characters in the food without it looking juvenile. For dessert offer your guests fruit platters in the shape of the Captain America shield, or for an aperitif serve up an avocado stack as a tribute to Hulk. Superhero food can be great fun, but still look classy.

There are some really fun elements of comic books that you can bring into your wedding without it looking like a cosplay convention. These personal touches will make your wedding truly unique and special.
