Red Sonja & Steve Niles Take on the Undead!

The She-Devil With a Sword will star in a new title this April, teaming up with the renowned writer Steve Niles for the first time ever. Together, they will bring an epic tale overflowing with the undead!

After being thrown into jail following a night of wild partying, a common occurrence for Sonja, the heroic Hyrkanian listens to a fellow inmate’s astonishing tale. This is the first time she hears about the notorious “Empire of the Damned,” an abandoned city concealed deep in a valley among the mountains. Once a thriving hub now forgotten, the city’s eerie streets are scattered with the remains of two armies. These armies were engaged in a fierce battle but were obliterated by the curse of a malevolent warlock. Although the dark sorcerer is long gone, he may have left behind a great treasure or clues to its location.

Sonja’s new friend Morgo asserts that the legend holds true and that he possesses both a map and an adventurous spirit. He has found a willing and formidable companion for his quest — Sonja herself. However, their first priority is to break out of prison! In this series, fans will have the opportunity to meet even more enjoyable characters, including a talented young witch named Luna.

“Red Sonja is such a classic character,” said writer Steve Niles. “She was ahead of her time, an incredible warrior, pretty much unkillable and always ready to fight. When I was approached about writing her, I made sure it was okay to bring in some violence and great monsters for her to fight.”

Writer Steve Niles is highly acclaimed for his extensive body of work in the world of comics. He has tackled well-known characters like Batman and Spawn, as well as created his own memorable characters such as Criminal Macabre, Simon Dark, and the widely adapted Hollywood series, 30 Days of Night, known for its horror and monster themes. Now, Niles has been given the opportunity to write for the iconic She-Devil With a Sword, where his unique storytelling style will shine.

Throughout his career, Niles has frequently collaborated with artists who share a similar vision. Notable names such as Bernie Wrightson, Ben Templesmith, and Kelley Jones have joined forces with him in the past. Now, Alessandro Amoruso will join this esteemed group, ready to make his mark with an exciting story.

In addition to the talented team of creators, Red Sonja: Empire of the Damned features stunning cover art from a variety of top talents. Joshua Middleton’s captivating style blends seamlessly with the horror elements of this tale. Joseph Michael Linsner, Philip Tan, cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and the distinctive color bleed/negative space cover by John Tyler Christopher complete the set for the first issue.

Red Sonja: Empire of the Damned offers an irresistible combination of monsters, magic, and mayhem. It is a must-read chapter in the ongoing saga of the Hyborian Age!
