Review: Harley Quinn #1 The Animated Series #1 (Digital First)
An interesting peek into the ongoing Poison Quinn Romance.
Story Thus far:
In the Harley Quinn cartoon Animated Series, centered around the wedding in between Poison Ivy and Kite Man. The priest, really Commissioner Gordon in disguise, then pronounced them under arrest as cops and media flooded the venue.
Both Ivy and Quinn are high profile villains so of course they are on the run from the GCPD.
Harley dragged Kite Man and Ivy out of the venue, undoing their handcuffs and even offering to marry them both herself. Kite Man, however, said no before flying away.
Harley Quinn #1 The Animated Series, picks up after the failed wedding in between Poison Ivy and Kite Man.
Both Ivy and Quinn are high profile villains so of course they are on the run from the GCPD.
So, they decided to rest awhile in one of Harley’s old Hide-outs.
Art:
Definitely saucy, Not for Kids
The art team for Harley Quinn #1 The Animated Series consist of: Max Sarin colored by Marissa Louise; Ed Dukeshire, Taylor Esposito.
Telemundo late night Spicy but at the time it has some psychologically enticing elements as well. I love how each of the panels captured the lighthearted animated feel, before eventually descending to the dark hidden side of the characters.
Script:
I can definitely see a future in this relationship being a marquise for DC comics. As long as you can keep the Pearl clutching Moms of America at bay.
The only issue that I have is Commissioner Gordon being the foil.
He is one of my favorite supporting characters and the Yosemite Sam steaming mad bit seems a bit out of character.
Seriously though this was better than 90 percent of things the comics that come out week to week.
Speculation:
Poison Quinn’s first meeting took place in the now-classic “Harley and Ivy” is the season 2, episode 7 of Batman: The Animated Series, and it aired on January 18, 1993. Their first comic together was Batman Adventures #12. FIRST CANON KISS: In Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner’s Harley Quinn #25, Harley and Ivy’s relationship became much more than a friendship as the two shared their first on-panel kiss, it was shortly after that when the writers described their relationship as Yes, they are Girlfriends without the jealousy of monogamy.
