Review: Snap Flash Hustle Vol. 1
A poly-amorous relationship, the stress of finance, shady drug deals and even shadier photo shoots.
Snap Flash Hustle Volume 1, is a day in the life look, at Haley Mori, a struggling alternative social media model; who is currently in a poly-amorous (throuple), with her husband, Jamie: A low rate actor, the male in the in the throuple, and a recovering alcoholic. with Pauline: The unemployed, second woman, third wheel in the throuple and the bread winner.
Things for Haley were getting to complicated: Getting paid chicken scratch for her photo shoots; Several thousand dollars in debt; days away from getting evicted, and no backup from her husband, or her girlfriend , things were definitely not going the way she wanted until one day she goes to an alternative modeling shoot. She realizes that it isn’t a modeling gig, but instead it is a network of models and photographers who operate as a front for a drug trafficking operation.
That is where she meets up with Coral Bertrand, who is technically the queen boss of the drug trafficking operation, but she constantly finds herself being undermined by Drew, a photographer, who uses the photo shoots as cover to traffic drugs. As far as the concept goes, Drug trafficking and models isn’t that far fetched. It wasn’t that long ago that model and former Penthouse Pet Simone Farrow was arrested on drug trafficking charges during a police raid on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
With panel illustrations that look like they were pastiche right out a museum painting, Emily Pearson supplies some individual panels absolutely capture the emotional desperation of being in the shoes of the individual subject so well
Final Verdict:Â Snap Flash Hustle volume one resonated with me on several levels. It’s been a long time since I’ve been broke, but I can still remember exactly what it felt like. I can picture all the ugly details of the way I used to struggle; the empty bank account, the awkward moments, the feelings of despair, and although I was going to school full-time time, A series of bad decisions meant that I was trapped in a desperate situation that felt nearly impossible to get out of. Kudos to Pat Shandry to be able to capture just a little bit of that; however,the ending came up to quick for me, in a way that I wasn’t expecting.
