Catalyst Studios Sets Release Date for Colombian Film ALIX
Catalyst Studios today announces that it has set a digital premiere date for its debut film, Alix, which was filmed entirely in Colombia with a Latin American cast. The film will be released globally on December 25 through multiple digital retailers (Google, Amazon, iTunes Apple TV). Its release launches the studio’s film slate that includes six features directed, produced by, and centered on female protagonists. A U.S. premiere for Alix is taking place at the TCL Chinese Theater on Dec. 5 with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of the Art of Living, introducing the film.
Written and directed by Ana Maria Hermida (The Firefly) Alix is set against the backdrop of the lush Colombian jungle and is a stirring narrative that intertwines the lives of Conejo (Roberto Urbina; Narcos), a battle-weary cynical soldier and Alix, played by the young acting sensation Cristal Aparicio (Sound of Freedom). Alix, a 12-year-old innocent, is involuntarily tricked into enlisting as a child soldier.
This powerful film, crafted with a touch of magical realism, explores the complex relationship between captor and captive. We go down the rabbit hole with Alix, and through her eyes of innocence and resilience we are drawn in by her optimism. She perceives Conejo as her guardian, but he is also her betrayer. And so, unfolds a poignant tale of growth, redemption, and the profound layers of what we call ‘family.’
Behind this cinematic gem is the writer/director, Ana Maria Hermida. She brings this emotionally charged tale to life with staggering beauty and subtlety. Aparicio and Urbina along with an all-star cast, bring this rich poignant story to our hearts: Natalia Reyes (Terminator; Dark Fate) Carlos Bardem (Assassin’s Creed) and Carolina Guerra (Animal Kingdom) deliver pitch perfect performances to make Alix a film that will stir your emotions and inspire your humanity.
