MOVIE REVIEW: El Camino

It has been 2,203 days since we last saw Jesse Pinkman. The last we saw him he was driving off into the night having just been freed from captivity as a result of the efforts from the Great Heisenberg, Walter White. I can honestly remember watching the series finale thinking that the way that Breaking Bad ended left me incomplete.. specifically regarding Jesse. Fast forward to 2019, Netflix has provided us with the final missing piece of the Breaking Bad story. I do want to note that in conjunction with this review, and this movie as a whole, if you have not seen any of Breaking Bad, a lot of this movie if not all of it will not make any sense. El Camino, A Breaking Bad movie is a Netflix original movie completing the open spots within the story from the award winning show. It takes place immediately after the events of the final episode of the series. Jesse Pinkman, the friend and partner of Walter White, the chemist who turned into methamphetamine cook.

The movie I“ll admit is a very slow paced movie, however I was enthralled with the nature of the story due to the fact that I always wondered what had happened to Jesse when he drove off into the night. He is wanted man in conjunction with the events of the final episode, (yes I want to be vague to avoid spoilers in case you haven“t watched the show) and we see the challenges he has mentally given the shit show that he went through. We get to enjoy seeing returning characters from throughout the show and their incorporation in the story is not forced by any means. Aaron Paul“s performance reprising the role of Jesse was top notch and to be honest I loved every second of it. He truly has been able to jump back into the shoes of Jesse and does such a great job that you would think that not a day has gone by from when the series ended to the release of this movie.

For all Breaking Bad fans, this is the closure of the Breaking Bad story you“ve all wanted. Written by Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gilligan, I truly believe that this was his opportunity to finish the story of Pinkman, where the series ended completing the story of Walter White. I appreciate that Netflix honored the world of Breaking Bad by supporting this project because it really does the story justice and completes the story the way that I feel fans will appreciate and love. El Camino is available now to stream on Netflix Score 4/5.
