This film has close ties to TFTF and Twister in a special way, The Fast and The Furious as it has cars in it, and Twister because it’s about the weather. It’s the type of cheap action movie that you would have went to see in the cinema back in the 1990’s and been very disappointed in, you may have wanted to go back to the foyer and try get a ticket for something better.
The thing is that there are moments in the film that could have been great, the recent more aggressive weather systems that have affected us all, and the idea of stealing $600 million dollars. What lets the film down the most is on one hand a very dated script which offers nothing to the silly action movie genre, and then the terrible performances by 90% of the cast. Most of the cast cannot hold their accents, with the Alabama accent proving too difficult for them to hold within an entire sentence, and even those speaking in their natural accent just giving so much ham that even I found it too much.Â
Maggie Grace, Toby Kebbell, and Ryan Kwanten you are better than this. Rob Cohen in the Directors chair should have made this the silly fun that it should have been. There almost is not enough action in the film and even when stuff gets exciting it’s exactly what you think is going to happen.
My disappointment and lack of interest in this film due to the accents which are stupidly distracting from a viewers point of view is why the score is so bad. A good friend of mine who is a fellow reviewer told me that these are the types of films that cinema managers love, they are short, and drag people in with a clever trailer and poster, this will draw more people into it on the promise that it’s another The Fast and The Furious in the making. He’s probably right, but it doesn’t make me like the film any more. My only hope as a fan of the mindless action adventure movies of the past is that this drifts into the air and is forgotten soon. Personally I would avoid seeing this again.
