MOVIE REVIEW: Top Cat Begins

One of those cartoon shows that I loved growing up is destroyed on the big screen.Â I know for a fact that this is the second of these big screen adventures for Top Cat, I have admit that I missed the first film, also have to say that I’ve never heard a single good thing about that first film.

At the end of seeing this film I was going to give it 1 out of 5 for the soundtrack of pop songs that you can tap your foot to but then I remembered that we have radio and don’t need to be spending money to hear these songs.Â I honestly believe that the youngest of audience members are too sophisticated for this terrible adaptation of the great cartoon.Â The voice cast manage to mimic the original voices pretty well but doesn’t have any creative control on how exceptionally lame the film is.Â There is also a total lack of character and background designs as you see the same repetitive characters walking through the different scenes.Â The attempts at humour fall flat on their faces.

The animation feels and looks cheap, second rate animation is too good of a description for this piece of garbage.Â I wouldn’t react as strongly as this about the film if the original cartoon series meant nothing to me.Â I was always a big Phil Silvers fan growing up and this was another avenue for me to get my fix.

The story here is that while trying to rescue one of his crew Top Cat and pals fall into the grip of Mister Big.Â He then tells the story of how he met his crew and ended up in this jam.

That’s it.Â Save yourself some money and if you can watch Zootopia (Zootropolis) again if you can.Â They know how to make a good animation over at Disney.Â Top Cat Begins is a film that you can live without and will have your youngest of children asking if you need mental help if you think they are going to entertained by this dribble.Â This is only the second time I’ve dropped the zero bomb on a film and I racked my brains for hours trying to think of another animation that I’ve seen while reviewing movies so you don’t have to that is on the same painful level as this, I can’t, I just can’t.

Top Cat was for the whole family, and I’ve no problem with aiming a cartoon at the youngest members of the family, but this is something that a fetus would be bored with.Â The best animated movies for children, as I’ve always said, are ones that entertain the whole family.Â This won’t even entertain the empty seats in whatever poor cinema is hosting it.Â It may be harsh to say that but I’ve got to tell you the truth.
