MOVIE Review: Maleficent Mistress of Evil
Disney has done it again with the sequel to the hit movie Maleficent with Maleficent The Mistress of Evil. Portrayed once again by Angelina Jolie, we pick up the story where the first ended with Aurora and Maleficent. To start off, this movie is a visually stunning film and one that if you have the opportunity to see it in IMAX, then I highly recommend that you take that chance. From the environments, sets, Costumes, all of it are put together in such a way that anyone watching will appreciate all the work that has gone into it. If there is one thing that Disney is able to do, and do well is the visual effects. They“re able to bring this world to life and truly make the viewer feel like they“re in the world of Maleficent.
The story itself, was enjoyable. While there were some dull moments within the story, and what felt like some redundancy in the plot, overall it was still entertaining. The action sequences was by far my favorite part of the film along with Angelina“s scenes. Her performance of Maleficent true shows that this role is hers and hers alone. I“ll admit I did get quite a chuckle out of seeing Ed Skrein in this film. If you don“t recognize his name right off the bat, then you may know him from one of his roles in Deadpool. He“s Ajax, aka Francis. His character of Borra was an absolute badass, and made the action sequences great. However, let“s be honest I was hoping that we“d get a Deadpool cameo of him yelling out something like “Say my name!”“ or something like that. But we can“t all get what we want. Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith was a fantastic performance, and it“s always great to see her on the big screen and needless to say she does not disappoint. Of course we cannot forget about Elle Fanning as Aurora. She absolutely owned this role, and while the performance did have that “Disney feel” for it’s princess, and no point did I feel that she was holding back, and that in itself helped propel the story into a great story.
Maleficent Mistress of Evil is a great movie for all ages, and one that families will truly enjoy. Having not seen the first movie, I was skeptical on whether I would be to still understand the story or not with this being a sequel. For the most part I was able to still understand what was going on, which was a relief to say the least. So don“t feel too bad if you haven“t seen the first one yet. Maleficent Mistress of Evil comes out worldwide on October 18th.
