TV Review: ThunderCats Roar!

The 2020 starts with a premiere that had been announced since 2017 and for some strange reason was finally released this weekend, almost 3 years later, during its announcement in 2017 ThunderCats Roar! Received a lot of hate from the fandom, the people hate ThunderCats Roar! So much that I asked myself if Cartoon Network dares to release it and unfortunately for many of us it was released, but first let’s see some of the history of the most powerful cats in the galaxy.

ThunderCats was a successful animation of the 80s which was part of a some kind of trilogy with the SilverHawks and the TigerSharks, each animation took an element as a symbol (ThunderCats: Earth, SilverHawks: Air, TigerSharks: Water) although this is a kind of urban legend and was never confirmed, anyway ThunderCats was the most successful of the three animations, in 2011 the series was rebooted, with great changes the original story, for example Lion-O and Tygra were brothers and rivals, but key elements of the original story were maintained, Mumm-Ra, the Sword of Omens, the Mutants, etc. This series took the practice of moral teachings and positive messages of its predecessor and also as the original series, this reboot came with an interesting line of toys which was not enough to extend its duration which did not pass from the first season.

ThunderCats Roar! is a remake of the 80s series with clear and notable differences, the first and which has had more controversy is the design of the characters since they are a toon style and the series follows a humorous tone and with a lot of sarcasm which has earned the hatred of the most faithful fans of the original series.

This weekend Cartoon Network showed the first two episodes of ThunderCats Roar! With a very short duration and with the same name as the pilot of the original series: Exodus part 1 and 2, the funny thing is that the premiere has been on the online platform and not on TV, after I watched the episodes my opinion is: I don’t want to watch another episode of ThunderCats Roar! again, two episodes is enough for me, I didn’t like the art of the animation and the series also fails in a lot of things like character design and script, come on guys! Show the love! I have seen fan-made animations of another franchises with better quality and fewer resources, maybe the failure of ThunderCats 2011 caused a change in style and strategy but I think it is not the way and my Sword of Omens showed me another failure in the franchise just like the plans of the Mutants fails, it is sad to make a review this way because I understand that there is a team of artists and creatives who believes in the product, but they are dealing with a series that caused great impact in a generation, for example, The Cats Lair is a kind of holy grail for many collectors and is one of the most great playset of the history, is this what we are talking about.

The only positive thing here is to have Larry Kenney as Jaga and the soundtrack, reissue part of the original soundtrack of the 80’s series is a very good point, but only that, I really hope that the imminent failure will serve as a lesson for those who are behind this project so they can understand the causes that led to this bad moment.

El aÃ±o 2020 empieza con un estreno que se venÃa anunciando desde el 2017 y que por alguna extraÃ±a razÃ³n fue estrenado finalmente prÃ¡cticamente 3 aÃ±os despuÃ©s y es que durante su anuncio en el 2017 ThunderCats Roar recibiÃ³ mucho hate del fandom, tanto asÃ que yo empecÃ© a preguntarme si algÃºn dÃa la estrenarÃan y desafortunadamente para muchos si fue estrenada, pero antes veamos algo de historia de los felinos mÃ¡s poderosos de la galaxia.

ThunderCats fue una exitosa animaciÃ³n de los aÃ±os 80 la cual fue parte de una especie de una trilogÃa que junto a los SilverHawks y los TigerSharks tomarÃan a cada elemento como simbolo (ThunderCats: Tierra, SilverHawks: Aire, TigerSharks: Agua) aunque esto es una especie de leyenda urbana y nunca fue confirmada, de todas formas ThunderCats serÃa la mÃ¡s exitosa de las tres animaciones, en 2011 se intentÃ³ un reboot de la serie, la cual cambiaba completamente la historia original, por ejemplo Lion-O y Tygra eran hermanos y rivales, sin embargo se mantuvieron elementos claves de la historia original, Mumm-Ra, la espada del Augurio, los Mutantes azotando el planeta, etc, esta serie retomÃ³ la aÃ±orada prÃ¡ctica de enseÃ±anzas y mensajes morales de su predecesora y tambien como la serie original, este reboot vino acompaÃ±ado de una interesante lÃnea de juguetes lo cual no fue suficiente para extender su duraciÃ³n la cual no pasÃ³ de una temporada.

ThunderCats Roar a diferencia de la serie del 2011 es un remake de la serie de los 80 con unas claras y notables diferencias, la primera y la cual ha causado mayor controversia es el diseÃ±o de sus personajes ya que son un estilo toon ademÃ¡s que la serie se dirige hacia un tono humorÃstico y con mucho sarcasmo lo cual le ha ganado el odio de los fanÃ¡ticos mÃ¡s fieles de la serie original.

Este fin de semana Cartoon Network sacÃ³ al aire los dos primeros episodios curiosamente de muy corta duraciÃ³n y que al igual de la serie original toma el nombre de Exodus parte 1 y 2, lo curioso es que el estreno haya sido en la plataforma On-Line y no en la TV, quizÃ¡s la razÃ³n sea un desesperado intento por hacer que el pÃºblico tome el gusto por la serie, quien sabe, ciertamente tengo mi opiniÃ³n y es que no volverÃa a ver un episodio de ThunderCats Roar! Creo que ver las dos primeras partes es suficiente para mi y la principal razÃ³n es el diseÃ±o de los personajes y el arte de la animaciÃ³n ya que ambas cosas dejan mucho que desear para ser algo que ha estado rodando por allÃ por tres aÃ±os se pudo presentar algo mejor, vamos chicos! Muestren el corazÃ³n! He visto animaciones de otras franquicias hechas por fans con mejor calidad y menos recursos, entiendo que es otra Ã©poca y quizÃ¡s el fracaso de ThunderCats 2011 provocÃ³ un cambio en el estilo y la estrategia pero creo que no es la manera y mi espada del Augurio me muestra que otro fracaso en la franquicia se aproxima tal como fracasan los planes de los Mutantes, es triste dar un review de esta manera porque entiendo que hay un equipo de artistas y creativos que creen en el producto pero Ã©sta no es la forma y menos con una serie que causÃ³ gran impacto en una generaciÃ³n, el Cats Lair sigue siendo una especie de santo grial para muchos coleccionistas imaginen de lo que estamos hablando.

Lo Ãºnico rescatable es tener a Larry Kenney como Jaga y el soundtrack ya que reeditan parte del soundtrack original de la serie de los 80 lo cual refresca un poco la serie, pero solamente eso, espero realmente que el inminente fracaso sirva de lecciÃ³n para quienes estuvieron detrÃ¡s de este proyecto y comprendan las causas que los llevÃ³ a este triste momento.
