QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST to Debut in Virtual Cinemas Throughout U.S. and Canada June 19 Cat-Loving Movie Fans Can Submit Videos to be Included in Feature-Length
Feline Celebration; Ticket Sales Will Benefit Indie Theaters
Cats will help save independent movie theaters this spring in the first-ever (and hopefully last-ever) QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST, which will be released Friday, June 19, to some 100 “virtual cinemas”“ in the U.S. and Canada ”“Â online versions of local, independent art houses.
The all-new, feature-length film can be viewed at home, with ticket sales bringing much-needed revenue to individual cinemas. Cat-loving moviegoers can do more than simply watch this ode to feline fandom: They can help make it.
Until May 15, the film“s producers ”“ the owners of Row House Cinema in Pittsburgh ”“ are seeking video submissions from cat-loving movie fans. Submitted videos may be included in the QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST. Submissions will also be judged in four categories (Cutest, Funniest, Bravest and Most Loving) to compete for cash prizes.
To submit videos, which must be shot in landscape mode, and to read contest rules, visit https://rowhouse.online/cats/.
“As we discussed the devastating impact of the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders with other movie-theater owners around the country, we began hearing a common refrain: Moviegoers are at home with their kitties,”“ says Brian Mendelssohn, owner of Row House Cinema. “At the same time, we saw the growth and innovation of virtual cinema. That“s how we cat-apulted into this idea to celebrate cats, our moviegoers and our love of cinema all at once, and to help raise revenue for independent movie theaters, who are deeply at risk due to closures.”“
Virtual cinema allows movie lovers to buy a “ticket”“ to see a new, independent film at home ”“ movies can be watched on devices or computers, or “casted”“ to televisions. Â The QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST will be available exclusively through virtual cinema, with a growing number of participating cinemas nationwide; a full list is available at www.RowHouseCinema.com.
Moviegoers can purchase tickets for QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST in two ways: By visiting the home page of their local participating theater, or, if there is no local participating theater, through Row House Online, the virtual cinema platform created by the Pittsburgh-based cinema. These two options ensure that anyone anywhere in the U.S. or Canada can buy a ticket to QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST.
Either way, approximately half of the ticket price will go directly to the selected local theater ”“ revenue that will help ensure these locally owned, independently run cinemas can survive the COVID-19 crisis until reopening.
Understanding Virtual Cinema
“Anyone with a computer or mobile device and an Internet connection can watch virtual cinema and help support their local independent cinema,”“ Mendelssohn added. “Once a ticket is purchased, moviegoers will be sent a link and password to their email address, which will allow them to watch the film online. Many smart TVs and streaming devices allow quick and easy ”˜casting“ from a computer or mobile device to a television, making ”˜virtual cinema“ a simple, convenient option for every movie lover.”“
Unlike physical auditoriums, virtual cinema has no audience limit; movie lovers everywhere can support their local independent cinemas through the process, which offers access to current, newly released independent films ”“Â and soon to the QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST, which will be released exclusively to virtual cinemas in the U.S. and Canada on Friday, June 19.
