Today in the Toyverse, we spin a web any size, and catch photos just like flies, with this latest Diamond Select Toys release. Up for review today is the Marvel Select Spectacular Spider-Man figure. A very special thank you to Diamond Select for sending this groovy figure over. Now this bad boy was originally a Disney Store exclusive, and is now a free for all for any Marvel Select fan. Let’s dive in and examine the figure a bit more in depth.
The Sculpt:
Looking over at this Spider-Man figure, I have to say, he looks pretty rad! The choice of blue is very nice. It helps highlight the body tone of Spider-Man. The skinny muscle body of Peter Parker looks good pressed against the blue. Now some of that sculpt gets lost in the red, but the red of the costume looks tremendous as well. The sculpting of the web lines looks great and the head, the feet, and hands all came out wonderful.
The head has a wonderful Spiderman look to it, and that includes the alternate head(but more on that later.) The eyes have a very modern Spider-Man vibe to them that definitely make the figure shine. The black lines all look good, and the spider logos on the front and back are crisp and clean. I can see why many Marvel Select fans have been wanting this Spider-Man in their collections.
The Articulation:
As far as Spider-Man’s movements are concerned, Peter park has got all the right moves. The head can look side to side, as well as up and down. The upper body can move forwards a little bit, but can go back a lot more. The upper body can turn thanks to the ball peg, but it cannot pivot side to side unless turned. However, the waist can rotate. As for the arms, they go up and down, and rotate a full 360 degrees. He has a bicep cut, double jointed elbows, and rotation and hinge at the hands.
The lower body has some interesting options. The hips are on Y pegs, so they require rotation before removing. At first I thought I would hate it, but it doesn’t bother me as much now. He can do the splits, and kick forwards and backwards. He has double jointed knees, and boot rotation. And the feet hinge up and down, and pivot at the ankles. All things considered, an amazing amount of movement on this Marvel Select figure.
The Accessories:
As for items, the Spectacular Spider-Man figure comes packed with some amazing items. He has a pair of fists, one pair of wall crawling hands, one pair of web shooting hands, and one pair of gripping hands. He comes with a camera for making money for the Daily Bugle, a Spider-Man mask for Peter to hold, and an unmasked Peter Parker head sculpt. All in all, a nice amount of items for this wall crawler.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, this Spider-Man figure has been a blast to mess around with. I think if you missed out on this figure when it was first released, you now have a chance to grab him and enjoy him. His is a very dynamic figure to pose and mess around with. He is going to look great on a shelf or in a toy photo. I hope you pick it up and if you do, let me know.
