Well here we are again in the Toyverse for another review, and today I am going to be talking about the McFarlane Toys Gold Label Walmart Exclusive The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Geralt of Rivia Figure. Before I get started, on behalf of Comic Crusaders and myself, a special thank you to McFarlane Toys for being kind enough to send this over. With that being said, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that this figure is pretty good. The bad news is that I don’t know anything about this franchise. Between the nine to five job, and working on my toy reviews, I don’t really get time to play video games anymore. I have seen trailers and gameplay footage, and the franchise looks great, it’s just not something I have been able to jump into. With that out of the way, lets examine this newest McFarlane Toys figure, and see what it is all about.
McFarlane Toys has really captured the look of the character in spectacular fashion. He looks like his 3D model counterpart that is for sure. The scar on the eye is really well done, and the face has a very serious expression. Basically, I would not want to meet this guy in a dark forest anytime soon. The chainmail scattered across the body is exceptional. I don’t get to put my hands on figures with a fantasy element too much, but it is nice to see the McFarlane team put out these little details in an amazing way. The two tone brown colors work well for the character. I especially enjoy the mimicked fabric and leather look. The straps on the body and boots are also a nice touch.
When it comes tot he articulation of this figure, he moves quite good I have to say. I personally enjoy the soft plastic overlay on the bodies of the McFarlane figures. It doesn’t hurt the sculpt, and allows him to flow pretty good. I do wish the head could look up and down more, but I am not losing sleep over it, and hopefully most collectors do not either. The arms have a great range with ball hinges at the wrist, double jointed elbows, and a bicep rotation. The legs can do the splits, and have double bends at the knees. the feet are on a ball hinge as well, and feature toe articulation. In terms of accessories, you get a display stand, two swords, and a sheath to hold the swords. If I had to say one negative thing about the figure, it is the fact that the sword sheath is opened. I could guess it has to do with a cost saving measure, but I am not on any team that makes decisions on this. And let me point out, it’s not like this bothers me enough to freak out and act like a crazy person, it just is strange to me. And being even more honest, you really don’t notice it unless you are eagle eye focusing in on it. So it’s just something I wanted to point out.
Overall, for not knowing anything about a character from a popular franchise, and just judging things based on the look and function of a figure, this Witcher figure is pretty cool. I think McFarlane Toys really served the character justice, and created a cool display piece for gamers and collectors alike in seven inch form. If you can’t track down this version at your local Wal-Mart, fear not, as a deluxe 12 inch version is around too, as well as a standard release. Once again, a very special thank you to McFarlane Toys for sending this over. I hope you enjoyed the review. Share your thoughts with me about the McFarlane figure, And as always head over to Comic Crusaders to get more pop culture fun at your fingertips. Thank you all so very much and enjoy the additional photos.
