Nano #1 brings Alexandra Grant, Matt Kindt, and Natacha Bustos together for a bold new sci-fi action series from Dark Horse Comics.

Dark Horse Comics is about to drop some serious futuristic heat with Nano, a bold new three-issue sci-fi action-adventure series that brings together world-renowned artist Alexandra Grant, New York Times bestselling and award-winning author Matt Kindt, and critically acclaimed artist Natacha Bustos for one wild ride.

This isn’t just another sci-fi book trying to look cool in a shiny jacket. Nano is swinging for something bigger. It’s got high-concept worldbuilding, dangerous missions, underground resistance energy, and a lead character who sounds ready to kick in the door the second the system starts acting slick.

The miniseries is written by Grant and Kindt, the powerhouse behind mind-bending hits like BRZRKR and Mind MGMT, with stunning art by Bustos, whose work on Moon Girl and Miles Morales: Spider-Man already proved she knows how to bring explosive personality and motion to the page. Lettering comes from Sophia Hilmes, and each oversized 54-page issue will feature cover art by Bustos.

And let’s talk about the setup, because Nano is coming in hot.

Sana is a no-nonsense operative working for the underground organization known as The Order. She and her longtime ally Lukas are sent into Nano, a massive city powered by prison labor and cracking under the pressure of blackouts and buried corruption. Lukas has the flashy infiltration mission, slipping inside Nanocorp’s heavily guarded research facility. Sana? She gets hit with the kind of assignment that would make any action hero roll their eyes—playing the loving wife in Lukas’s cover story while posing as a middle-school PE teacher.

Yeah… because nothing says “don’t blow your cover” like teaching eighth graders how to stretch while your partner is neck-deep in danger.

But this is where Nano starts cooking. Sana isn’t built to sit on the sidelines, and once it becomes crystal clear that Lukas’s mission is going off the rails, she’s done pretending, done playing nice, and ready to make moves.

That tension right there is the juice. Nano feels like it’s mixing cyberpunk pressure, spy-thriller suspense, and rebellion-fueled action with something more emotional and human underneath. You’ve got a heroine caught between control and instinct, a city built on exploitation, and a mission ready to explode.

“Nano is a story that I’ve been daydreaming about for over twenty years—of two worlds clashing together—that of science and technology and that of magic and nature,” said Grant. “I can’t thank Matt [Kindt] enough for helping me tell the story, and for Natacha [Bustos] and her vivid drawing and color work in bringing Sana and the whole of Nano to life. It feels like a particularly poignant time for Sana to join the world—a heroine whose name means healing in Spanish—to lead a group of women, girls, and animals, to question and kick ass against a complicated tech world that keeps all people, especially men, imprisoned and very, very small.”

Kindt added, “This started as literal fever dream that Alexandra had and was sharing with me. It was so vivid and intricate I was desperate to see it come to life. It has such big and wild ideas that it seemed perfectly suited to comics and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

That quote tells you everything you need to know. Nano isn’t playing small. This book sounds like it came out of a dream, got sharpened into a weapon, and is now ready to slice through the summer comic season.

Nano #1 lands in comic shops on July 29, 2026, and it’s available now for preorder at your local comic shop for $8.99. Three issues. Fifty-four pages each. A stacked creative team. A fierce lead. A corrupted mega-city. Oh yeah—this one’s got the juice.

If Dark Horse sticks the landing on this, Nano could be one of the sleeper sci-fi books that sneaks up on readers and then refuses to let go!
