Skybound Revvs Up the Hype With First Look at M.A.S.K. #1

The Next Phase of the Energon Universe Kicks off June 10!

Skybound and Image Comics, teaming up with Hasbro, just pulled the tarp off the first look at M.A.S.K. #1 — and yo, this one is coming in hot. The debut issue of the all-new Energon Universe series is powered by a killer creative squad: writer Dan Watters, artist Pye Parr, colorist Pierluigi Casolino, and letterer Rus Wooton. This fresh new ongoing series hits comic shops on June 10, 2026, and it’s looking like a full-throttle launch.

The world is getting uglier by the minute, and Matt Trakker is stepping up to do something about it. Enter M.A.S.K., an elite network of specialists built to answer the next global nightmare at a moment’s notice. With cutting-edge tech that transforms vehicles—and their drivers—into high-powered weapons, Trakker and his team are humanity’s best shot. But standing in their way is Miles Mayhem and V.E.N.O.M., already deep into a deadly arms race, hunting powerful weapons from Earth and beyond with plans to sell out the entire human race. The stakes are wild, the danger is real, and the big question is whether Trakker’s own secrets could blow up the mission from the inside.

And let’s talk covers, because M.A.S.K. #1 is not playing around. Alongside the main cover by Pye Parr, fans are getting a stacked lineup of variants from J. Scott Campbell, Cedric Poulat, Mark Spears, and more. There are Energon Universe Third Anniversary connecting covers by Tom Reilly & Adriano Lucas, incentive variants by Kael Ngu, E.J. Su, Jonboy Meyers, Joshua Cassara & Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Daniel Warren Johnson & Mike Spicer, plus blank sketch covers, foil covers, and some slick die-cut foil mask covers from Pye Parr, Luke Preece, and Andres Juarez. In other words, collectors are about to get tested financially and spiritually.

If that wasn’t enough sauce, M.A.S.K. #1 is also bringing the first-ever Energon Universe blind bag program, giving fans a shot at scoring any of the solicited covers from A through K, mixed in with different rarity levels. And because Skybound likes to keep fans on their toes, there will also be three rare surprise Energon Universe comics hidden in those blind bags that will not be revealed ahead of release. That’s right—mystery mode activated.

Before the main event drops, fans will get an early taste in Energon Universe Special 2026, the Free Comic Book Day release arriving on Saturday, May 2, 2026. That special issue will feature four all-new stories from TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, and VOID RIVALS, while also serving as the first official glimpse into Watters and Parr’s take on M.A.S.K. Nice little appetizer before the chaos hits full speed.

With M.A.S.K. joining the ranks of VOID RIVALS, TRANSFORMERS, and G.I. JOE, the Energon Universe keeps getting bigger, bolder, and more dangerous in the best possible way. Bottom line?
