Dastmalchian, Kilpatrick, and Soo Lee Unleash a Planet of the Apes-Style World Overrun by Monsters

From the brilliantly twisted minds of actor, writer, and producer David Dastmalchian (Count Crowley, Through) and actor, writer, and producer Leah Kilpatrick (Headless Horseman, DC Horror Presents), alongside Bram Stoker Award-winning artist Soo Lee (Carmilla, Minor Threats), Dark Horse Comics is unleashing a brutal new horror event with Kingdom of Earth. This terrifying four-issue series throws readers into a nightmare future where humanity has lost its place at the top of the food chain. Featuring letters by Frank Cvetkovic (Cyberpunk 2077, Tramps of the Apocalypse) and haunting cover art by Lee, this is shaping up to be one monster book horror fans will not want to miss.

“It’s tempting to abandon hope when the world is dominated by monsters… right?! But thanks to the incredible passion of my creative partners on this book,” said Dastmalchian, “we created a terrifying world where a small flicker of hope burns amidst an apocalyptic landscape. I love mash-ups and this series is the ultimate mash-up. Every monster you’ve ever seen, read or studied battles for supremacy while a small movement of humans plot survival and rebellion.

“I love being able to draw monsters and creatures that go bump in the night,” said Lee. “It’s so much more different than what I’ve been working on lately and thanks to my collaborators, I’m able to test myself by making this dark and terrible world beautiful in my own way. I hope everyone is captivated by the world we have developed in Kingdom of Earth.“

In Kingdom of Earth, the year is 2036, and the world belongs to monsters. Two years earlier, horrifying creatures erupted from land and sea, tearing through civilization and nearly wiping humanity out. But extinction was not the endgame. Humans still have value in this savage new order, just not as equals. Now, people face only two choices: service or slaughter. When a young child named Frankie escapes a horrific fate as livestock, that desperate run for survival sparks something bigger—hope, resistance, and maybe even rebellion.

“I love monsters. Every culture has its own folklore, fables, and ghost stories that terrify people in their own unique way,” added Kilpatrick. “Kingdom of Earth gives us the chance to mine from all of it. I’ve never seen a story, aside from one of my favorites, Cabin in the Woods, where every monster imaginable collides in one world of horror, chaos, and ambition. In KOE, nothing is off-limits. The fun is getting to know these creatures and giving them personality, fears, and motives of their own.”

With a killer creative team, a savage high-concept setup, and a world packed with terror, chaos, and survival stakes, Kingdom of Earth looks ready to hit horror fans right in the throat. Get ready to choose your fate when Kingdom of Earth #1 (of 4) crashes into comic shops on July 15, 2026 for $4.99. Visit Find Your Comics Store for more details and a shop near you.
