Dead Teenagers #1 Review – The Slasher Time Loop That Refuses to Die

Dead Teenagers #1 comic book cover featuring prom-night horror from Image Comics

Prom night becomes an endless nightmare in Dead Teenagers #1 from Image Comics

Some comics creep up on you quietly. Others kick the door open with a bloody machete and yell, “Prom night is never over!” Dead Teenagers #1 is very much the second kind. This wild horror debut drops readers into a nightmare that’s been running since 1997. Five teens go to prom… and get brutally murdered. Then the night resets. They wake up again. They try to change things. They die again.

Over.
And over.
And over.

Yeah. That’s the hook. And it’s a nasty good one.

Writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle leans hard into classic slasher DNA, think VHS-era horror, late-night cable movies, and the kind of wild prom-night chaos that made old-school slashers legendary. The twist here is the time loop. Every attempt to escape the night just leads to a different, more ridiculous death. The result feels like a horror remix of Groundhog Day and retro slasher madness.

And honestly? It’s a blast. Instead of slowly explaining the premise, Doyle throws readers straight into the madness. You feel like you’ve been stuck in this nightmare with these teens for years, trying to figure out what the hell is going on while the body count stacks up.

The real MVP though is Caitlin Yarsky’s artwork, which absolutely sells the book’s vibe. The characters feel expressive and real, while the horror moments land with that perfect mix of creepy and chaotic. The panels move with a kind of kinetic horror energy that makes the whole thing feel like a midnight movie unfolding on the page.

And the kills? Oh yeah… they get creative.

This first issue doesn’t reveal everything about the mystery behind the loop, but that’s part of the fun. The comic knows its job: hook you, entertain you, and make you curious enough to come back for the next round of prom-night carnage.

If you love slashers, time-loop chaos, or horror comics that lean into their weirdness, Dead Teenagers #1 is a very fun start.

SCORE:
4.5/5

Prom night may end for everyone else… but these kids?

They’re stuck dancing with death.

And we’re absolutely here for it.

WEPA.
