Copperhead races through the swamp in G.I. JOE Silent Missions Copperhead #1
First Look: Howard Porter Unleashes G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions: Copperhead #1
Cobra’s cold-blooded bounty hunter slithers into the spotlight when this Silent Missions one-shot strikes on April 22.
Skybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Hasbro, are unleashing a killer first look at G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Silent Missions – Copperhead #1, and this one is coming in hot. The new one-shot drops on April 22 and throws fans straight into Skybound’s deadly cool Silent Missions Month celebration. The issue is crafted by powerhouse writer-artist Howard Porter (JLA) with colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr. (The Amazing Spider-Man), and from the jump, this one looks like pure speed, chaos, and Cobra-fueled danger.
Comic book history got flipped on its head when G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 hit readers with the legendary “Silent Interlude” story, proving you didn’t need dialogue to deliver a knockout punch. Now Silent Missions Month is back for its second year, but this time the spotlight slithers over to Cobra, letting some of its most dangerous operators take over in a new wave of intense, wordless stories from elite creators. That’s right, baby—less talk, more mayhem.
And when it comes to mayhem, Copperhead is more than ready to clock in. Howard Porter straps readers into a full-throttle swamp death race that looks brutal, fast, and absolutely unforgiving. Copperhead may be fearless, but the competition clearly did not come to play nice. This mission feels like a straight-up survival run where only the nastiest player makes it out smiling.
The cover lineup is bringing the heat too. The main cover comes from Howard Porter and Romulo Fajardo Jr., with an open-to-order variant by Jorge Fornés (Rorschach), a 1:10 incentive black-and-white version of Porter’s cover, and a slick 1:25 incentive foil letter cover by Fornés that continues the collectible series spelling out COBRA. That right there is the kind of setup that makes collectors start stretching before they hit the comic shop.
G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Silent Missions – Copperhead #1 is the fourth chapter in a five-week run of brand-new Silent Missions one-shots releasing every Wednesday throughout April. The full creative strike force behind this event includes Gabriel Hardman, Jöelle Jones, Declan Shalvey, Pat Olliffe, Tom DeFalco, Howard Porter, and Jorge Fornés. In other words, Skybound didn’t just put a team together—they assembled a straight-up tactical unit.
This release is also part of the bigger, hard-hitting partnership between Skybound and Hasbro, which keeps expanding the reach of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero and the shared Energon Universe. That universe keeps cooking with Void Rivals, TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, and now the upcoming M.A.S.K. series launching on June 3. On top of that, the new G.I. Joe Compendium Set Kickstarter is running now through April 22, giving longtime fans and new recruits another way to load up on JOE greatness.
Bottom line: Copperhead #1 looks like a vicious, pedal-to-the-floor silent thriller with swamp-born insanity, killer art, and that classic G.I. JOE tension fans eat up. No dialogue. No wasted motion. Just pure visual storytelling with Cobra venom dripping off every page.
