Oni Press is coming in loud, wild, and fully locked in with a massive Lewis LaRosa showcase that should have comic fans grinning like maniacs. The award-winning publisher just unleashed a fresh barrage of jaw-dropping covers for FORT PSYCHO, the upcoming 12-issue maxi-series from Matt Kindt and Brian Hurtt, while also pulling back the curtain on CARBON BASED: THE ART OF LEWIS LAROSA, the artist’s first career-spanning retrospective art book, which is available now.
And let’s be real—this is not some casual flex.
This is Lewis LaRosa stepping back into the ongoing cover game in a major way for the first time in years, and doing it with a title that already sounds like it’s ready to punch readers in the face and ask questions later. Even bigger, FORT PSYCHO marks LaRosa’s first all-new project for Oni Press, and from the looks of these covers, he didn’t come to play nice. He came to dominate the rack.
LaRosa himself reflected on the moment with the kind of gratitude and fire that fans love to see from a creator who knows exactly how far he’s come and how much more he still has in the tank. Looking back on his career through CARBON BASED, he called the retrospective a tremendous honor and made it clear he’s still pushing forward, not backward. Better yet, he said his biggest hope is that the book inspires anyone flipping through it to grab a pencil and draw. That right there? That’s the real artist spirit. No gimmicks. No fake humble. Just passion, growth, and the hunger to keep building.
Starting with FORT PSYCHO #1, which hits shops in August, LaRosa joins co-creator and interior artist Brian Hurtt on ongoing shelf covers for what sounds like one of the most chaotic, tension-loaded action books on the horizon. The series centers on a team of disgraced secret agents sent to a classified island prison to answer for a lifetime of crimes, betrayals, and bad decisions. If that setup wasn’t juicy enough already, Oni is also making LaRosa’s raw black-and-white art available as incentive covers beginning with issue one and continuing through the series’ tightly guarded conclusion. That means collectors are going to be eating good.

Then there’s CARBON BASED, and this beast looks like essential shelf material for art lovers and serious comics heads. Spanning more than 250 pages, the book offers a deep dive into LaRosa’s line art, design work, concepts, and rarely seen material from across a killer list of publishers and properties, including Marvel Comics, Valiant Entertainment, Epic Games, BOOM! Studios, Hasbro, and more. Fans will get to trace his evolution across iconic works like Bloodshot Reborn, Divinity, Punisher MAX, Savage, and Transformers, all while seeing the raw craftsmanship that made LaRosa one of the most recognizable stylists in modern comics.
And Oni didn’t stop there. CARBON BASED: THE ART OF LEWIS LAROSA also includes a new introduction by Oni Press president and publisher Hunter Gorinson, page-by-page commentary from LaRosa and former Valiant editor-in-chief Warren Simons, plus appreciations from an all-star lineup of collaborators including Lee Bermejo, Dave Johnson, Matt Kindt, Jeff Lemire, Yanick Paquette, and more. So yeah, this isn’t just an art book. This is a full-on celebration of a creator whose work has been blowing minds for years.
As if that wasn’t enough madness already, Oni is also loading up Free Comic Book Day 2026 with more FORT PSYCHO insanity. Fans will get their first look at the title’s deranged commandos SHIV, LYCAN, and DRAGONFLY in the MIND MGMT / FORT PSYCHO FCBD 2026 SPECIAL, which includes two all-new short stories. One of those stories serves as a never-before-seen prelude to FORT PSYCHO #1, giving readers an early taste of the carnage before the full series lands in August.
And because Matt Kindt clearly enjoys feeding readers premium weirdness, the FCBD special also includes a self-contained introduction to MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED #1, launching in June. That book kicks off a powerful new chapter in the world of MIND MGMT, the acclaimed series once described by Entertainment Weekly as one of the most experimental and fascinating books in mainstream comics. That’s not a bad co-sign to have in your pocket.
Bottom line: Oni Press is firing on all cylinders here. FORT PSYCHO already looks like a savage new obsession waiting to happen, Lewis LaRosa is back doing what he does best, and CARBON BASED feels like one of those books fans are going to want on the shelf, on the coffee table, and probably in their hands for an unhealthy amount of time.
This whole rollout is loud, stylish, and loaded with pure comic book electricity.
